Whoo hoo!!! (I've earned bragging rights)

Are we there yet?
After breaking my shoulder in multiple places less than six months ago, today was the first swim meet I've competed in. In all honesty, I expected to do fairly badly.

I have no idea how I did it, but I was in the zone. Not only did I do well, I also came in first, AND BEAT MY OVERALL BEST TIME. My previous best for Girls 50 yard Butterfly was 26.01 seconds. My new best time is 25.96.

:dancer::dancer::dancer::dancer:

My shoulder hurts like no other, but it was SO unbelievably worth it. I'm sitting with a piece of flexwatt on it to try to soothe the pain. (And yes, I'm using a thermostat!) :D

congrats, kinda like the time i had strep throat and the flu, and i did the best on one of our runs in PE! this was years ago though. i can't run anymore.

:laugh: That's awesome. We herpers are strange folks. My back was killing me the other night, and I had a spare Zoomed UTH hanging around, and I used it. You were smart to use a t-stat-- I just wrapped the UTH in a towel. :rolleyes:

:dancer:Whoohoo, Congrats Jenni you've certainly earned the bragging rights....able to compete and brake your personal best in one go.....Well done!!! :dancer:

Actually the cheapie on/off thermostat is working very well for me. When you get injured, you're actually supposed to do about 20 minutes with heat and 20 minutes without. The thermostat is taking care of it. It's nice.

It's a 3 panel piece of 11' flexwatt. I'm using a panel on my back, and the cat is enjoying the other two panels. Overall, a very good situation.

How did you break your shoulder?

Lifeguarding. I'm a head guard at the YMCA, which means I don't actually lifeguard much. I'm more responsible for training, customer concerns, scheduling, and of course, bathroom breaks. While letting one of the guards take a break, a guy decided to wait until he was IN the deep end to realize he wasn't comfortable. :confused: He freaked out, I had to save him, and he ended up forcing my arm backwards, breaking my shoulder.

Actually the sports medicine dr, I talked to says heat does more harm than good, he recommends ice...

Congratulations!!! What a horrible way to break your arm!! I agree, ice is probably more beneficial, although try telling me that after I've ridden my bike a couple hundred miles- no way- give me hot water any day! Congratulations again- I really admire swimmers. When I swim, lifeguards follow me along saying "Are you sure you're ok- are you sure you're ok? You can stop and rest!" I'm like, "I'm fine, I'm just SLOW!"

Well done.... I shattered my heal in the summer and earned myself 7 screws and a steel plate. Plus 2 weeks in hospital. I can take a pic of my scar if anyone wants to see it.

I keep trying to get the xrays but the doc wont let me have one.

It's amazing the force a human being has when they are out of their mind! What an awful way to break your shoulder.

I'll add another vote for cold packs but heck if you won and beat your best time then you must be doing something right!

CONGRATS!!!! :dancer::dancer::dancer:

How anyone can master the butterfly is beyond me....I'm amazed at anyone who can move through the water like that; it looks like dolphins catching air.

When I tried it, it looked like I was having a Grand Mal Seizure.

Again, nice job, especially after coming off an injury! :cheers:

regards,
jazz
