Who's got balls?

Fidel is a nice looking BP! :) He doesn't appear dehydrated, looking at those pics of him (so maybe he was occasionally drinking the gross scum water that you mentioned the previous owner had in his tank?), and I have seen thinner balls before. Here's to hoping he'll take f/t.

I'm new to BPs myself, having acquired my first a little over a month ago. Just barely (as in Sunday) got him to take a f/t rat for me after heating it up in a sealed plastic baggy under very hot water, which is what I do for my corns and rosy when I feed them, and after some coaxing with the tongs he went for it.

I've still got mine on newspaper, but from the sound of things cypress bedding is the way to go. Think I'll go pick some up this weekend for Dimmy. :) It's been such a pain keeping the humidity up here! Utah is such an arid state. Blah deserts.

Congrats to you too and thanks! He's pretty shy so far, and from when I handled him before, but I've tried not to bother him unless I "have" to. (I suppose the pictures this morning weren't _necessary_...)

I finally went and got myself a kitchen scale! (I'm excited about it at least. :)) And I am now able to report that Fidel weighs 617 g. Sounds a bit light to me, but hopefully he'll eat for me and put on a few hundred grams!

We have had our BP since the 11th now. We got him from a co-worker of Mike's who bought him locally in February. We aren't sure how old "he" is or if it is a "he". But he is 25' and 326 grams. Or at least he was. He has refused all his feedings. We are trying to switch to F/T as well. We even went into the pet store and got some mouse bedding and made the mouse really hot and rolled him in it then of course had to wipe it off so he wouldn't ingest it. But he wouldn't take it. The guy who had him said he just tossed in a live mouse at night and when he got up in the morning, it would be gone. I refuse to do that because the mouse might attack the BP. I really don't want to feed live or have to kill a mouse :( The vet I use has a vet tech who has a BP that she switched over the F/T. She said it took months. He went 6 months without eating a thing then one day he did. She said he did drink water and didn't lose much weight at all and now he is just as fat and healthy as ever. The receptionist said hers went a year without eating and turned out fine. I really can't imagine that happening..hopefully he will eat soon!
