Why did my new snake die?.

Holly12

Sensitive Lady.
Hi all this morning when I got up the new corn snake I got on Friday was dead :crying: I do not know what happen I'm really upset and hurt by this. Can anyone on here maybe help me on why he would just die like this?. I will be returning the sanke back whear it came from they will give me back my money but that is not the point. The point is that he is gone and I'm in shock over this it is not fair. :crying:

There's very little that you could have done to cause your babe's death in three days. He was most likely already very ill when you bought him. Corns are very good at hiding when they're ill, as in the wild this would make them vulnerable to predators.

I'm sorry that this has happened - it's very upsetting. However, some hatchlings just aren't destined to make it and this is sometimes not obvious until the moment you find them gone.

My friend next door to me her mom has a Amelanistic and it is still baby she is moving and they don't allow pets at this new apartment. So she ask her mom if I can have it and her mom said yes. So later on today I will be going to her mom's old apartment and looking at it and if it is very healthy I will take it. She is not asking for any money for it I told her that I will pay for it but she said no I know it will go to a good home. So what do you all think about this? should I do it or should I wait?.

I'm sorry to hear about your snake baby. :(

If you decide to take the amel and put it in the same viv as your deceased baby, make sure to clean everything very thoroughly...just in case.

Okay yeah I'm going to do that in a minute I will make sure that it is all clean very well. I'm so hurt over this at first I really thought I did something to him and could not think of anything I did to make him just be alive one minute and die the next. This new one I might be getting today is also a male but she said he is she when it comes to someone looking at him when he is eating.

Well, if the snake regurged and died without you ever having "done" anything to it, something was probably wrong before you brought it home. I'm sorry.

Pet shop snake Holly?
I am so sorry you lost your baby. Considering where so many pet shop snakes come from it is a wonder that any of them make it.

Do you know how old the amel is? Chances are it is nice and established if it is older than a year. Good Luck with him!

But still with the new one do a formal settling in week, etc. before feeding/handling.

This one I'm getting is still on pinkies she said it looks to be 6 months old and yes I got this corn snake from pets mart. Now I wish that I would of just not got the snake and they co-hab thir snakes too. I had along talk with them when I was at the pet store about that. And I thought I was helping the snake by saving it. I know stupid on my part to even think that this will be a very big lesson to learn you learn from your mistakes and I know I sure have. The sad thing is the snake died and putting stress on it by taking it home could be why he just gave up and died. :crying: Sorry but I'm so hurt over this.

I so agree Nanci, the "settling in time" is more important than some of us think. So many things can stress a snake.

Holly sorry for your loss. Like others said, in that short of time it was probably sick before you got it.

Also, like others have pointed out clean out the old viv very good. I use a cap full of bleach to a gallon of water, and(dump and scrub) then let it set out a day or two to air out before putting another animal in it.

I was told by a vet, when we took serj in, that it can take up to 2 weeks for a snake to become comfortable in their new surroundings. And during that time dont know make too many changes to the viv. Just go in and do the water changes.

I am sure that the lil guy was already sick before you brought him home.

I am sorry you lost your scalebaby. I know how rough that is. I will admit I have gotten a snake from a one of the big chain stores, but we were lucky. I have gotten two from a local mom and pop store and they have flurished, but honestly were no where as big or healthy looking as the ones I got from a breeder on here!

I got another viv that has not been use so I will put the new snake in that one and I already clean out the one that the dead snake was in.

Oh and just got back with the new corn snake and he is very healthy my nextdoor friend 's mom had took him to the vet when she first got him. He is a Amel very good looking boy but she said he does not like it when someone is seeing him eat lol.

I am sorry you lost the lil guy. I just had one regurge on me so I am sick at the thought of losing him, so I know it is hurting you.

Thank you all for the nice comments and the help and the great advise I really appreciate it. It will be a while befor I get over this but this new little guy I have he looks like he will make it for sure my freind's mother took very good care of him. It is so hard when we lose a pet they become a very big part of our lives the other corn snake i have I got him from pet supplies plus. And he has been doing really well for me no issues with him at all. And they don't co-hab the snakes thir wish makes me very happy I have been going to this pet store for 9 years.

Are you sure you can't get your $$ back? Petsmart even gives a certain amount of days guarantee on a fish.

I like Pet Supplies Plus, I practically live there.

I'm sorry your baby died.

They did gave me my money back today befor I went to pick up the new baby corn snake. But when I told that I woke up this morning and the snake was dead they said well he was fine when he was here with us. I said no I don;t think so and gave them a long talk on selling sick animals. Thank you for your support and nice comment.
