Sorry about the strictness of this requirement, but it is necessary to block spammers and scammers at the door as much as possible.

Why'd you pick your user name?

I can't believe I never posted in this thread.
My former username "NWHeather" is pretty simple....My name is Heather, and I live in the PNW. :)

I asked Rich to change it a little while back to my now business name, "Mystic Exotics".

The story on that name is from 2008, when I got into private bred ferrets. I was reasearching them and sent out a bunch of questions to various breeders. Julie from GFX was great about answering all my questions, so I decided I would get my babies from her.
I flew out to NC to meet her and pick up the babies. I had chosen two black solids, female and male siblings. I named them "Mystic"(F) and "Majik"(M). Mystic was my baby girl. I adored her! At the time, I considered getting into breeding ferrets, my friend would mentor me if I chose to do so. This is when I started breeding Cornsnakes, and started registering with ACR. I had to pick a name, so I chose "Mystic Exotics", in the event that I started breeding ferrets too.
I opted not to breed ferrets, they are a whole lot more complicated, but I kept the name.

Wow. Been around for a bit now and never noticed this thread. Guess I'll throw out a bit of backstory on my aliases.

So, I'm pretty much a product of technology. I've been obsessed with computers and sciencey stuff my whole life. As such, I pretty much grew up on the internet before it was a household utility. Having spent my life on the internet in all it's various stages of development, I learned at a very early age the importance of anonymity. It's that lesson the lead to the development of a completely alternate persona that exists solely on the internet. The reverend Rune D'Shyznit. Seriously, Rune has a physical address not my own, finances not my own, and was even cheaply ordained as a minister in the ULC (thus the reverend).

Nythain (DeCorpus) on the other hand is a bit more simple. Nythain/Nythanial are basically the "nicks" or "handles" I use anywhere and everywhere when I don't even want to reveal Rune's identity. Being mostly used for nickname/display name purposes, Nythain lacks the intricate background and identify of Rune. The word itself goes back to a roleplaying game that me and a friend developed. The main inhabitants of the world were a species called the Spyrith (or Spiryth, i forget). The "Nythain" were a rumored race of Spyrith with the ability to will things out of existence by simply refusing to acknowledge them. In Spyrith, Nythain means "nothing". So, when it came time to create a new persona, I was in a pretty dark place in life, and chose Nythain DeCorpus which I personally translate into "Nothing of the flesh".

So there you have it, waaaaay to many words explaining the choice of a singular word. And an in depth look into my paranoia and nerdiness.

Smigon - SMI for the first three letters of my now-husband's last name, GON for the first three of mine.

(And it is pronounced SMI (as in "smile") and "GON" is "con". Not "smidgen"!

Yay, I've been pronouncing it my head correctly the whole time! If it makes you feel any better no one can figure out how to pronounce Nythain. NITH-ane would be correct but all I ever get is NIGH-thane or nith-IAN.

so it's like calgon with a smile. got it. I can't remember what my username means. Probably olde engrish for 'trouble', or something equally endearing.

Ooh, I got yours right too!

"Calgon with a smile" - love it! "Calgon, take me away!" Now I need a bubble bath!

I picked that name when, 20 years ago, our friend Matt was setting us up with our first computer. He logged us into Earthlink (is that still around???) and told us to pick a username, I am glad I picked smigon because I think there have been only one or two sites we couldn't use it because it was already taken. Funny thing, it is also taken on Kindle's "Words With Friends" and the person refused to tell me how they picked it (not that they had to, but I was curious) and so I just stopped playing with them. Probably a creepy stalker.

I chose "The Cat" because I've always been very fond of cats and being "The Cat" sounded cooler.

This is such an interesting thread! I read some of these and thought "Oh, that's what their username means!" :)
