wierd egg.....

at the time of laying,all eggs seemed ok,some being dimpled and dehydrated from being in with mom all day. all have filled in since and most have improved. there is one that was half caved in before plumping up with water,this is the egg in question. it has now turning yellow on one end ,and is kinda slimy.the first pic is around when they were laid,the second pic is today.

the egg in question in photo 1 is way to the back of the pile,to the right. in this pic its the one in front,that has kind of an opaque yellow window.

just curious

as to if the egg could still be good? did it spoil or what? ive read that good eggs dont usually go bad, is it possible that this egg was bad to begin with,and is just now showing up?. they were laid 5/15/03.this confuses me, everyone says that youll know within the first week they're laid if they're bad,cause theyll get all moldy,yellow,and collapse. someone please clue me in!!!

I've had good eggs go bad during any time in the incubation period. Embryos can die at any time for a variety of reasons. Treat the egg as if it is still good since I've had wierd looking eggs that did hatch. You'll know when it has finally gone bad, if it does. It will get dimpled (alot) again, turn a definate yellow and feel very rubbery. Pull it at that time. That particular egg looked very dehydrated in the first pic, so there is a chance that the embryo died at that time, but perhaps not.
