OK I decided to start a thread for everyone where we can post this years wildflowers.. Anyone can post here.. Please include where the pics where taken. I will also post all of the flowers I see here on a regular basis..


I started my official wildflower photo quest yesterday when I got off of work.. I just missed the best sunlight for photographing by 20 mins or so.. Aghh So I will have to go back again and take more photos. But here they are...

Taken on this stretch of road behind Frenchman's Mtn., just 10 mins away from my house, near the entrance to Rainbow Gardens.

And I just had to add this. THis is one of the main reasons the deserts burn so easily. Non-native grasses is one of the main causes of fire in our deserts. Once dry from the summer heat it ignites and the fire spreads rapidly. Non native grass is such a problem that many deserts never get a chance to recover before they burn again. The results are devastating and cause lasting changes in our desert communities. Fire did not used to be a very common occurence in the desert. Just thought everyone should know :)

I wish I could be back out there for the blooms again. Joe and I were out west last spring and got to see the desert full of color. It was breathtaking.
We stopped at Joshua Tree National Park and after being outside for 5minutes I couldn't stop sneezing! And I normally do not have pollen allergies!

I've posted all of these before, but I will post them here, too! I know very little about flowers, and I am guessing at the names of these flowers from a guidebook I just borrowed last night. I haven't even really gotten into it yet, so I could be wrong in my ID's...

Hey Chris, I was hoping youd add your pictures in here :) THanks, I added a name and a possible name above :) I like that you have echinocactus polycephalus out there, that one of my favorite cacti..
 
I keep trying to get up to Henry Coe State Park but lately I just can't seem to get a Saturday or Sunday off and I don't want to go alone. Hopefully I'll get up there next weekend. In the meantime, I'll try and snap some pics at work while I'm stuck there. LOL. The wild mustard has been painting many feilds yellow for a couple months now and the poppys are really looking great.
 
I love the mustard as well, but they are unfortunately a big cause of fires also.. At least a few kinds are.. I cant wait to see your pics :)

Enceliopsis again, these had flowers that where a bit bigger than the ones by my house..
This is my favorite flower of the year so far.. Mostly because I love the silvery green rosettes they sprout up from..

I didn't have a lot of time today and I had my boss's dog with me who wanted to stick her nose in every shot. But here are my pics from today, sorry so many of them are out of focus.

And some more.... It looks like I'm too late for some of the Poppys, they aren't as many as there were a few weeks ago and the remaining ones were all closed up because it was cloudy/sprinkly.

In case you were wondering if California Happy Cows really existed. (Although I don't know if that ad compaign even runs outside CA) And I know these aren't cows. They are the two lone bulls left after the round up, they miss all their girlfriends.


And.. I wonder what lives in that hole? I'm guessing bunnies or a fox. Too small for a coyote.
