Just back from the vets. Puss was such a good girl, a bit shy at first but then she started pracing around the table, rolling over like a dog to have her tummy tickled etc.

She deffinatley has tape worm, and has been wormed appropriatley. She was also given an anti inlamatory and anti biotic jags for her skin problem. My vet suggested she was over pruning due to it being extremely irritating, but I wouldn't know as I don't see her grooming habits often.

Shes a dainty 3 kilos. I didn't think she was that small lol. I have booked her in to get spayed. My vet has performed the operation on cats as old as 14 and 15 before with great success. So shes in next week to have the operation. I'm just pleased it went a lot better than I thought it would. My vet said she looked in fabulous condition for such an old outdoor cat, so I must be doing something right :p

Well yup. Theres nothing really all that wrong with her. It's most likley the toms that are causing her so much hair loss (especiall on the belly) as I have seen how rough they are with her.

Hopefully now the tape worm has been sorted she should really perk up!
 
I'm so happy all in all she's healthy. I think your making the right decision to get her fixed, even this late in life. Thanks for keeping us updated on her.
 
Excellent news! Great that she's getting her girlie parts removed, before they cause health problems, at her advanced age.

A stray cat found me once. I'd never had a cat before, was always a dog person. But she changed me into a cat person. We called her Porky- I can't remember why. She would come into heat and there would be this horrible yowling all night. So after one heat, we took her to the vet to get spayed. "Had this cat long?" he said when we went to pick her up. Um, no. She'd already been spayed, but has a sliver of ovary left which was causing her to display heat-like behaviour.
 
Fankoo everyone :) I'm so pleased shes doing OK. Hopefully after she is spayed it will be many more years before she has to go to the vet.

Question..do you give her any treatment for heartworm (I know at that age it is suggested to give like a monthly or bi-monthly treatment..I forget which..but this is just what I've read..I havent gotten a vet confirmation on that yet..)

Heart worm isn't an issue in the UK, it just doesn't exists here
 
I'm sorry Elle for your kitty girl, but glad she is doing better. We have fleas just awful here some years. I have one indoor/outdoor cat, a dog and two indoor cats so they all get fleas and at least once a year tapewpom. From experience I can tell you the flea/tapeworm cycle is around 14-21 days, meaning she can get tapeworm again. A couple years ago it about broke the bank as here it is $7.00 each pill, one per cat and the dog needs 1.5. We had to worm every three weeks as they just keep getting the worms, because of the fleas. Make sence probably not: the fleas feed on the tape worm larva and the animal eats the flea, hence the cycle.
