Woma owners?

I've been looking around at a few other snakes, and for some reason the Woma keeps catching my eye. I was just wondering what experience anyone has with these snakes. From the sounds of it, they're very easy to care for in captivity, but still very few people own them and even fewer breed them and I can't quite seem to figure out why (other than the $300-500 price tag)

One of the reasons would probably the fact that these are Australian Pythons and were listed until really recently, in Cites I- meaning that it was prohibited to really export or import them. Also, since they are Aussie pythons, not many, if at all, WC continue to be collected to propagate the existing captive population.

That, and the fact that they are not that easy to breed does limit the availability.

Setting all of this aside- a 300-500$ pricetag can stop allot of people in their tracks when acquiring a snake :)
There are cheaper alternatives.

Doesn't make Womas any less appealing though. They are awesome and I hope to own some at some point.

I don't own a Woma yet, but they're certainly one of my top 2 dream snakes. We have one where I work, that's had my heart for the better part of a year now. It's just that price tag that's keeping me from getting him (or any other woma). I don't have that much money to my name... :p

I just got a male a few weeks ago (from a very respected breeder) and he is awesome! I adore him! He eats f/t mouse fuzzies right out of my hand! I know where you can get a female for $200 or a male for $135 (from the same terrific breeder) so the price tag of $300-500 is not holding you back. PM me if interested.

From what I have heard, they are actually easy to breed, their overall care is minimal, and they eat voraciously.

And so far for me that has been true with my little fella!

Hmm, where's Michael? He occasionally posts the most beautiful pics of his woma...

Thanks Ceduke :)! I only have the experience of owning one, but I can vouch for the amazing beauty and personality that they can posess. My male Woma (who I was most fortunate in lucking into) is such a sweet, calm and easy going animal. Very easy for me to handle and care for, as well as being my favorite one to photograph. My CPU is currently screwy (on PSP now), but I'll try to get some photo's soon and post them from my mom's CPU. For now you can do a search under my SN and search for titles with Woma.

So I finally have a woma! Long story short, I was FINALLY able to afford the big boy at the store this weekend. He's not the prettiest woma, with dirty coloration and a dark head, but he's just such a sweet snake, and I'm thrilled to have him.

This big fella's temperament is fantastic. He does move a bit, but he's largely content to just sit. I'm thinking I may look into picking up a hatchling once things have settled down and I can (maybe) afford one. :p

We have an adult male too. Dingo is so sweet and fun to handle. A great snake I would never give up. They are incredible and well worth the money! Part of the reason they are not popular is the lack of morphs. There was one patternless woma born in the clutch that my boy came from...but I have not heard about anyone breeding that true yet. Not to mention its really ugly. After all...it's the pattern that makes them beautiful!

Last night was feeding night for my little collection. When I went to get my little woma boy out of his cage I made the mistake of going in with hands reeking of rodent from handling all the thawed out rats and mice. He was out cruising his cage all night but that's pretty typical for him, even after feedings. He is just a bundle of energy all the time...even more than my indigo! Anyhow I usually have to do the mouse dance for woma boy each week so I didn't think he would come after me with rodent musked hands, but wow not last night! When I went to get him he proceeded to strike at light speed, wrap my pointer finger and commence eating procedures upon it. I see now that I will be treating him more like my indigo and not giving him any chances to mistake my fingers for food haha! What a difference a few weeks can make getting comfortable in a new home. He is now the insane eating machine that I have read these guys can be! :sidestep: And I love it! :dgrin:

So I've had my woma for going on a week, and I've found that he's VERY active--much like Markus commented on in his last post, always cruising around, exploring his cage surroundings, almost never in his hide. I fed him for the first time last night, and this is the first since he came home that he's spent more than a couple hours hiding away. Definitely an active, friendly "display" quality snake!

Yeah by far my most active snake! He is always always cruising about and has NO fear at all thus far. Very fun little guy!

I've had a woma since 2006. I love him. He's gentle and very handable. The thing I like the most is he's always cruising his cage and not hiding like most snakes. He's got a great appetite too.

My guy tried to eat my finger the other day when I went to get him out for meal time. Made me laugh. I am stoked he likes to eat just as vigorously as my indigo! He is only in a 3x1.5x1 right now, but it's plenty until he gets over 3.5 feet or so.

And I forgot I already made a post about that. Ignore.
