Ok, Ive read around and this seems to be the answer. Normally my snake is quite happy to be stroked and generally runs through your fingers as you stroke him.

Though today, and yesterday he flinches when you touch him, and doesnt seem to want to eat like he normally does on a saturday night. Hes also not moved over the last 3 days more than from one hide to another.

Does this mean hes getting ready to shed? Thats my general impression from what ive been reading on the forum. Never had him shed before, and the previous owner didnt pass on a record for me to follow.

How long should I leave him with the refused mouse so that I know hes definately not going to have it? I assume overnight, though he normally just moves straight for it, I've even tried dangling it in front of him he just aint interested.

Kinda concerns me to see him so reserved and not eating, Dont wanna mess this up, I've only had him a few weeks.
 
btw, I cant really see anything different about his eyes.. Hes albino and I cant get him to bring his head out of the hide hes in without him seeming to get stressed, and I dont really want to push it.
 
Just leave him alone. It's hard to tell when amels are going to shed- they don't turn blue, just kind of cloudy pink. Your clue is him going into a hide and not coming out for days. Plus refusing to eat. If you have a snake that normally eats right away, and you've removed him and left him with a mouse and he hasn't eaten it for, say, an hour, he's probably not going to. It's ok- it doesn't hurt him at all to miss a meal. They usually hide about 8-10 days, then they get active and turn clear again, and you think they have shed, but they haven't. The snake then sheds in 12-48 hours. I feed the next scheduled feeding day, since I have two permanent feeding groups, but if he is your only snake, go ahead an dfeed him the day he sheds.

Since he has eaten for you before, I wouldn't worry about this one refusal.

It kinda sounds like he could be getting ready to shed.

My advise is make sure his temps are correct. Make sure he has plenty of water. And leave him alone for 4-5 days.
 
Well, the crafty little sod just likes worrying me... I left the mouse in his Viv with him, on a small tray so he didnt have a problem with the chippings.. he didnt touch it, then 3 hours later i turned around and the tray is empty.

His temps are a bit of a mess, im gunna pick up a rheostat for his heatmat on monday... His temps have been up and down since he got here, and from the setup I've been given when I got him, they have always been a mess.

I'd like to get him sorted out so hes organised properly, with all the right equipment. Want him to be happy with me.

Thanks for your answers, at least I know he can miss a meal and I dont need to worry too much.

You never have to apologize about being too concerned about your snake! That is what this website is made of, people who are concerned about snakes. If you ever have a question, ask it! :)
