Wyoming

Do we have any members from Wyoming or has anybody ever been there? My dad just took a job offer in Pinedale and I have no clue what the state has to offer. I am a Bio major (wildlife management specifically) so the first thing I thought of was job opportunities at Yellowstone. It looks like they have plenty of herps but they aren't on the western side where I'm going to be. Its just going to be a huge change from AZ where I grew up and OH where I'm going to school now. If anybody has been there I would love to hear any info you have on the place. Thanks!

I've been to Devil's Tower, Yellowstone and Grand Teton. The last two did wonders for my bear phobia! I hope you find your dream job there. The national parks are amazing.

I can't answer your question, but I can share (what I think is) a funny story! My assistant swimming coach is a young lady from Wyoming and I always made the mistake of asking her about things from Montana . . . forgetting she was from Wyoming. She kept reminding me that she's from Wyoming which is below Montana and a different state. Anyway, I decided one day to tell her that I no longer consider Wyoming the name for her state. From now on I'm going to call her home state South Montana. It's funny, kinda maybe, because of our North/South Dakota relationship. :shrugs:

I have a friend who spent 6 months doing research in Pinedale. I don't remember much about the area except that it is huge in oil, therefore it is very expensive to live there. Too much money, with nothing really around the town. Yellowstone isn't that far, but I heard the town wasn't that exciting. As far as herps, I bet there are a ton around there though! Prairie rattlers for sure.

I spent a summer in Wyoming, and have been through Yellowstone back when I was a teen. (Many years ago) lol... And I always remember it being green and beautiful with loads of wildlife. I never spent any length of time in the cities though, so I can't say what the rest of it is like.

And, the weather will be the biggest shocker... They have seasons in Wyoming... =p unlike us desert states... lol Winter will be the hardest to adjust to, and the fact the humidity will most likely be higher than what you're used to dealing with at times.

I spent about 16 years growing up in wyoming. I grew up in cheyenne but have been all over. For being a wildlife managment major, wyoming is i feel perfect for that. There are plenty of parks and wildlife. It is a great place a just got tired of the snow and really cold winters. almost every town has some type of wildlife management and i dont think it would be to hard to find a job. let me know if you got anymore questions and i will try to help anwser them.

Thanks for the info! I'm actually stoked about moving up there I just didn't know what to expect. They have a web cam in the town and every time I check it there is a semi truck parked out in front of this little general store...thats it. I'm guessing with all the hunting, fishing, hiking, camping etc. I will find something to keep me occupied.

So being from AZ and going to school in OH I got all the questions like "so have you ever seen snow?" and "where is your cowboy hat?" but now its my turn to ask the stupid questions...

Is everybody a cowboy up there?
Can it really snow any day of the year?
Are high school sports big? My 2 little brothers will want to know this one.

I think thats it for now...thanks!

All of Wyoming is still very old styled and there are lots of people that hold on tight to that cowboy tradition. I always liked it there everyone is nice, you will be surprised by the hospitality that people have. And in some people in small towns will still ride horses around and still have out houses. Its like stepping back in time.

Unfortunately yes it can snow almost any day of the year. The weather is very unpredictable. It can be 86 degrees and sunny then the next day you have a 4 foot snow drift. The wind blows there allot and it is the only place that I know that it can be sunny out and raining.

Depends on the school and grade level but football is a pretty big deal all over the state. High school rodeo is the biggest thing. There is basket ball, tennis, lacrosse is growing in some areas, some schools have golf and rug bee. Oh and there is track and some other sports like I said it depends on the school.

Everything in Wyoming is very family orientated. Hope you like it there.

I've been in the area of Pinedale quite a bit. Lots of sagebrush, rabbits, antelope. Good fishing in that general area. Lots of Cowboys. Was a huge oil industry area once upon a time but I think that has died out now. Kemmer and Big Piney are near by and are alot the same.

My company motto comes from an old Wyo. joke. Wyoming, where the men are men and the sheep are scared.

Lol I like the point that snow just blows back and forth all year long and sometime isnt far from the truth.

Lol people in wyoming use sheep more for their wool and I wont even touch on why the sheep are scared.lol:sidestep:

Brokeback was based in the big horn moutains which is near buffolo and cody but they actually filmed it in canida. The big horn moutains and the rockie moutain range does look simular to that.
