Young males and fertility

What's one more???
I have a male corn who is supposed to be two years old, who bred a couple fo my females. He is over 3 feet long, but is still kin of small around. The first female he bred laid her clutch and only 11 out of 23 eggs look good. The second female hasn't laid yet so I can't can't compare clutches until she does. Anyway, I was just wondering if his age and size could have anything to do with it? Basically, do the males get "more fertile" as they get older and larger?

As a side note...I do not know how old this one female is, so it could be because of her as well. I was just curious about the fertility of the males.
 
I'm still trying to figure out the answer to that one myself. I have 9 clutches so far this year. A few are by young, "small" males, and others by older, larger, and established males. The females also range alot in size and age. The results...CONFUSING! One young male paired with an older female produced 3 fertile eggs and 8 slugs. A young male with a young female gave me 13 fertile eggs (the largest clutch so far this year). A pair of older, proven breeders also gave me 3 fertile eggs and 9 slugs (go figure that one!) And an older male with a young female gave me 11 fertile eggs (my 2nd largest clutch of all fertile eggs).

At this stage of the game, I'm taking what I get, and am glad to get it!

a small first timer male often seem to deplete their sperm after their first one or two matings,and continued copulations result in rapidly declining fertility rate in the females they breed page 47 cornsnake manuel/kathylove. so expect more slug action with the females you bred with him. maybe it would have been better to study up a little more but in a good note is that you learn by your mistakes
 
I think it depends on the male...

I have an amel male who bred two females multiple times, when he was two years old and just barely big enough to take adult mice. The results: they both laid 100% fertile clutches of 20 eggs and 12 eggs. The same year, I bred a male for his second season to two other females and they had a few slugs.

The next year the amel bred the same two females and had 100% fertility again. :)

I've also heard the same thing: that young males (in their first season especially) will have a lot more enthusiasm than they have sperm. With that one exception, it seems to have held true in my limited experiences.
