Zimmerman trial

Did Martin act in a lawful manner. Did he stand his ground ????

As far as the law is concerned, this is irrelevant. An aggressor is able to use lethal force if the reaction to their aggression is disproportionate or if they've made a reasonable effort to disengage.

Basically, at the moment that Zimmerman sustained injuries, regardless of what came before, the law authorized him to use lethal force.

Nice authorization.

Who's that aggressor again on that dark rainy night in Feburary.

I still suspect this story was never about anything other than gun control and ratings.

Following someone is not necessarily an act of aggression, either. We all wish George had hit it off with the young man and given him a ride home in the rain. For a million reasons, their interaction didn't happen that way.

Videos of the entire case is on YouTube. Why don't you just watch them before you make any further comments that reflect on your ignorance (meant in a nice way, of course) of the facts presented as testimony?

Really, it doesn't take a genius to figure out what transpired that night.

ding ding ding we have a winner... (emphasis below is mine)

Barack Obama said:
The death of Trayvon Martin was a tragedy. Not just for his family, or for any one community, but for America. I know this case has elicited strong passions. And in the wake of the verdict, I know those passions may be running even higher. But we are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken. I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son. And as we do, we should ask ourselves if we're doing all we can to widen the circle of compassion and understanding in our own communities. We should ask ourselves if we're doing all we can to stem the tide of gun violence that claims too many lives across this country on a daily basis. We should ask ourselves, as individuals and as a society, how we can prevent future tragedies like this. As citizens, that's a job for all of us. That's the way to honor Trayvon Martin.

Seems to me that efforts would be better served, if using that incident as a model, to outlaw concrete sidewalks and make them of a much more forgiving material when one's head is being pounded against it.....

By all credible accounts, had Zimmerman not had a gun with him that night, his death would have barely gotten a one liner in the local newspaper as being the victim of an unknown assailant. That gun, it's use, and the right of self defense worked as intended.

The prosecution in that court case failed to prove otherwise to the jury.

Oh, one other thought here. Since when has it become inappropriate (much less illegal) for a citizen to have a concern about their home and neighborhood enough such that they have a right to try to observe ANYONE that they may deem as being suspicious? Has all such authority been granted solely to law enforcement while I wasn't paying attention?

IMHO I believe this is exactly what DC folks want, control of the people. Or should I say sheeple.

Well, this is an interesting wrinkle, even stated as it was back in October.

OFF TOPIC, BUT...

...since you posted the funny Hitler video with subtitles, I have to mention a really funny one made with the same video clip about a year ago or so. I won't post a link to it here because it has some cursing in it and some people might not like that. But it is funny, so I posted it on my FB page. You can either see it there, or just Google Hitler and ball pythons.

Ok - back to the scheduled thread now.

Obama: "If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon"

Actually I really do believe that statement that Obama made. One of the very few statements that I have heard from him that I DO believe.

I don't know why he felt the need to say that. I'm sure it thrilled his base, but that seemed classless and divisive to me.

And speaking of some pretty bone headed statements being made...

This guy doesn't even understand that it was Zimmerman on trial.

I would REALLY like to see how some people would like the laws of this country to be written in their favor.

Yes, "divisive" does seem to be a key word. I would use it to describe a number of things he has said, and "sides" he has chosen to identify with the past few years.

It seems to me that only two people actually know what transpired that night. One of them is dead and the other was fighting a court case.
Reading this thread the main feeling is that some people seem unable to accept that a different point of view to their own can have validity.
