Blood Red genetics

How does the blood red trait behave? Is it a simple recessive or is it more complicated than that? Will breeding blood red to blood red yield 100% blood reds?

Thanks,
Dan

In my opinion

I think that the bloodred genetics are more complicated than just simple recessive trait.

Most of the time you can tell that a hatchling is het for bloodred. (I am not saying that this is 100% true) but I have seen a lot of hatchlings that are suppose to be het for bloodred have a grey to a greyish head but with checkered belly. So I don't think that the bloodred trait is just as simple as a recessive trait.

But someone with more experience with the bloodred genes might be able to answer your question in a bit more of a detail than I can. I only have breed bloodreds for a couple of times~~

But I know one thing for sure,

breeding a bloodred to a bloodred will result in 100% bloodred batch. (Assuming that both are not het for anything else)

If you'll do a search on the term "bloodred," I promise you that you'll find WAYYY more information on the subject than you EVER wanted to know!

:)
