Calling all Hog Owners..

Dale

Interventions won't work
I have a coworker that owned a pair of hogs. I told him a while back I'd be interested in babies if he ever bred them. Well this week he decided to give them to me, an awesome pair of chubby little adult Westerns. Now I know next to nothing about Hog morphs, and these 2 are visibly different from one another. Just variably shaded normals or possible morphs on one or both? Previous owner doesn't know as he was a very casual keeper.

they are both 5 years old.

Both are normals, the lighter one is the female and *might* could be considered a blonde phase, but that's sort of like calling a normal corn an Okeetee (minus the locality debate). From a personality standpoint, they are my favorite snakes. They take going off feed to a new level, though. Mountain kings are easier to convince to start eating than a hog who decides nothing sounds tasty! Most keepers agree "keep 'em hot and feed 'em a lot," and offer small meals 2 X weekly. Hairless mice also seem to digest better, though I don't know that all the fur that is passed from regular mice is in any way harmful. I get hairless when I can, though so far this season don't have access to any. In my limited experience with 20ish animals, getting chilled will send them off feed every time. Also, watch the females come laying time, and get those eggs out pronto! Best wishes, and super congrats! Love those westerns!

Grrrrreat, being that the previous owner was a casual owner, he had these 2 on live/stunned. That will not be an easy situation when it comes to offerring coming out of a winter season.

Funny you should mention the Mt. Kings as I also have a pair of yearlings just coming out of their winter strike, and the little SOB's refuse to take anything but live now!

Thanks for the info.
