Corn snake terminology / slang

Im a first time snake owner and have been reading this message board and learning alot. Im trying to learn as much as I can about corn snakes. There are a couple things that I ran across that I have an idea of what they mean but I am not sure of so please help me understand.

I have assumed that there is different kinds of corn snakes like an okeetee?? or amiel?? or snow??

what is the difference between the corns, and how many different corns are there?

what is a Morph?

I think f/t prey means frozen thawed.. Am I right?

when someone says they have a 1.0 snow corn, what does that mean? (Im assuming its how many male or females they have of that species).

Thats all I can think of for now. If there is any other snake slang/terminology you can think of that would help me, please let me know.

Nope, not different kinds of corns per say, just different Morphs. Okeetee corns, like the Miami's are locality corns. Amel or Snows are color Morphs.

The difference in corns can be the colors and patterns. There are quite a lot of different color Morphs out there, with more on the horiozon. Add the different patterns to the various colors and the numbers go up even more.

Yep.

1.2.3 would mean 1 male, 2 females and 3 unsexed/unknown

:wavey: Welcome to the board!

DAND pretty much nailed it all. The only one I can think of is:

Slug = an unfertile egg

Oooh, another Washingtonian. I'll be up there by the end of the week. :)

In addition to what has already been said, there are 2 books which are a must have for the corn snake enthusiaist.
The Corn Snake Manual by Kathy and Bill Love, and
Serpwidgets Corn Snake Morph Guide
Get them!

Why do they call the snake cage a viv?
It is short for vivarium.

vi·var·i·um ( P ) Pronunciation Key (v-vâr-m)
n. pl. vi·var·i·ums or vi·var·i·a (--)
A place, especially an indoor enclosure, for keeping and raising living animals and plants under natural conditions for observation or research.

Well I can't add anything new to what's been said already, but I can direct you to my Herp Terms page on my website that has a bunch of 'short hand' terms listed that are used not just for corns but also for herpetology in general:
http://www.dakotacorns.com/HerpTerms.html

I also have a cultivars page which has example pics listed with a short description of the various morphs/cultivars that you will hear/read about. There are links on that page to much more in-depth explanations of corn snake genetics done by Serpwidgets who also happens to have a genetics book that you would find extremely beneficial. He's one of the 'experts' in the area so to speak.

Welcome to the board, and hope you enjoy your time here!
