Do you coat/protect laminate?

I finally recieved my pantry soon to be turned into 4 vivs. We are putting it together now, the back it comes with is cardboard so we obviously arent going to be using that. Whatever the back is will be coated with something, my question is the rest.

Its white laminate...do I have to use any kind of sealer/primer for it?

A close up picture of said laminate would help.
I'm thinking it'a a thin layer of pvc/plastic, so I wouldn't do a thing to it but caulk the corners. If you do think you need to coat it with something you will need to sand it with a light/fine grade of paper. But you risk sanding through the layer of "pvc".

That is melamine or a melamine like product. No you don't need to paint or seal it.
