First hook-ups for me!!

Ok,
last update tonight..she passed 1 sometime earlier today..so that leaves her 2 to go. the next one up appears to be a freaking monster of an egg...Not to worry anyone (i'm doing enough of that for everyone here.). If she gets this one out....i think even octomom would be impressed. (did i just say that??? Man I need sleep).

5:45 am...

No change. Still 2 to go...But, the egg is right at the vent...So maybe..just maybe...She'll pass this one today??? never hurts to hope...right?

Positive and happy thoughts going your way. I am sure your little girl will get them out for you today. I know that this has just got to be eating you up since you were worried about it before she even started laying.

Sorry to keep everyone waiting....The News is not good. She's still holding the 2 eggs. I swam her as soon as i got home..Checked her at 5:45am then again at 5:30-6:00pm when i got home. The vet has been called...Our "reptile specialist" has no knowledge of how to aspirate a snake egg. But she said she'd be glad to see my girl & TRY to get the eggs out. I asked her if she could just sell me the needle & suppilies to do the job...NOPE!!! So, taking kathy's advice...I chose to swim her....Didn't seem to enjoy it much. Swam her for about 15minutes. water temp was 82-83. Maybe By forcing her to use those muscles...we have loosened them up a bit. Also noticed..after the swim...there was some urates Seeping out of the vent...around the eggs...so I know she can't be comfy. There is a feed store just down the road....I think they sell needles to administer Meds to farm animals...if I can find one of the right size...i'll buy 3! her venter or ventral area is caved in....she looks like she's lost a TON of weight..didn't weigh her..Just didnt want to bother her any more than i felt i had to...She started at around 325 grams...empty. So..After the swim..i'll give her 24hrs. If nothing tomorrow...i think I should seriously consider Aspiration..whether i do it myself or pay an unqualified vet to do it...while i guide her through the process..(keeping in mind..i've never done it...just seen the video...) Lord be with us. Also..nanci...you were spot on about the drink of water...I was holding the first 6 inches of her body while she proceded to almost empty her water....seemed to drink for at least 45 secs. non-stop.

On a happier note..i have put all assumed viable eggs in the incubator. there are 2 that are iffy looking....how long before i can candle them to see if they are viable??

You have no idea!...well maybe you do! All i know is..this is starting to get depressing...But we'll forge ahead...I ain't ever gave up before..And i wont start today! :)

heres some incubator shots......

Kroger pharmacy will sell you needles, but you'll go on the list of suspected crackheads. That's where I got mine last year. Good luck!

I wouldn't throw out eggs if they don't candle right. If they are not fertile they will shrivel up and mold.

Oh Rich...your poor Momma' snake. Man, she has to be uncomfortable. hope fully that nice long drink will help her, as well as the swim. I wonder if lack of substantial exercise in captive snakes is the reason for so many egg-binds.

Maybe she'll pass those other eggs tonight...

Perhaps...seems like a likely candidate. I'm wondering if i didnt cause this myself...checking on her to often. never handled her..just checked on her...hmm..well, she went in her tub..and i havent been back there since the swim....I mean this egg is RIGHT there..and it's a monster!!! This may seem awful to say...but could care less about the last 2 eggs..i got 12....more than enough....she done well...i just want them out of her...so i can begin nursing her back to a reasonable weight.

Completely understandable Rich. We know you want her to be healthy and okay...never had a doubt! We want the same thing. Just go easy on yourself, too! :)

Oh Rich, I'm so sorry this is happening to your poor girl! I'm about 1 1/2 days behind you. This is my second girl to stop laying eggs. It looks like mine still has 6-7 left to go. She looks so uncomfortable :( The last egg laid was sometime yesterday morning, so tomorrow morning I'll give her a swim and some exercise. I'm giving her more time than my first one like Kathy and others have suggested.

I hope your news is good news in the morning.
