my temp on the warm side of the vivarium is 73.6f cool side is 71.1 is that ok as i seem to be having trouble with the temp

i have a 20 watt uth ( but the heater can be placed inside viv- would this be a better place ) and 2 exo terra digital thermometers, sensors placed on the substrate ( wood chip )

That is too cool on the warm side. Put the thermometer probe in the center of the UTH, under the substrate, inside the viv.

What is the viv made out of?

temp up to 81 f but have read on this forum that to place the sensor on the substrate so if it placed where u suggest wont that give a inaccurate high reading

Nope, the temperature directly on the glass is important, as corns burrow. So the substrate could be perfect and the glass too hot.
