Motley X Motley = Not Motely?

UK Corn Enthusiast
Hey all,

This guy came from a shared breeding with Lex this year. Both parents are Motley at least but are supposed to be het Motley/Stripe. We didn't get any stripes out at all but we did get this guy:

He has belly checkers! He is the only one in the clutch like this, all others are visibly Motley.

Strange one...

With just that scattering of belly checks and what looks like a plain belly otherwise, all I can say is that snakes don't read the book. And as Nanci said, it has happened before and is happening more frequently. Several like that seem to hatch out every year now. It might be another gene for belly checks that is dominant to the plain belly motley gene. It might even be the same gene that is causing the extra dark bellies of some tesseras and why many Sunkisseds seem to have many more belly checks than the average corn snake.
