Actually I do have to do something about the rep system one of these days. It's pretty much become useless since the numbers involved have become so HUGE that it doesn't really mean anything any longer. One or two people "repping" another can completely saturate their rating in one fell swoop. Heck, look at the green bars in this thread alone. EVERYONE is maxed out.
So yeah, SOMETHING definitely needs to be done about it.
I guess I would need to adjust the values used in determining an initial rep power and then zero out EVERYONE to start over again. There isn't going to be any way to retain values and do a proportional reduction. So EVERYONE would start from scratch, with initial rep powers set to an algorithmic value based on the setup criteria I have to use for this function.
I just need to figure out which criteria should be considered most pertinent in making it actually MEAN what it is supposed to mean.
Would that cause you all a lot of heartburn?
But it's worse than that. I think you have to rep 10 others before you can rep me ever again, not just that day. And you can only rep four people a day, so...it gets so dragged out it's virtually meaningless.
Does anyone else really think the actual number is so important that they would be artificially repping people in order to raise that number for them? For me, it's a means of communication.
Well, I'd like to see the Daily Reputation Clicks Limit go up to say, 10-20? And the Spread go to maybe 4. I don't care if it's displayed; in fact, I think that's distracting.
... For me, it's a means of communication.
This is what I use it for. A personal note saying hey great post.... It's more of a nice to token to say "awesome post" and drop a little note to the poster.
I don't care how many green boxes are under my name, I just want to be able to rep messages I think are good or insightful without necessarily having to always post in the thread.
