I haven't gotten my butter yet, but I just fell in love with this one! I am unsure of her kind as she came from a friend of a friend who said her father was a California king snake corn hybrid (?) her mother was a normal...and she doesn't resemble any pictures I've seen, so I'm calling her a mutt lol. He said she hadn't ever really been handled so when I bravely put my hand in her tiny little cage I was bitten twice, but went ahead and picked her up and she was very calm after that...I brought her home last night to a waiting 10 gallon with aspen and heat. She seems comfortable, but I woke up this morning to her on top outside on the screen. I put my hand out and she slithered right onto me and up my sleeve. I held her for a few minutes before putting her back in. I currently have the top secured with tie straps and she cant get out...shes sure trying though lol...probing every inch of the top with her nose...well later I had to change the water, she was in one of her warm hides. As I was picking up her bowel she scooted straight across the floor and back up my arm! I know I'm supposed to leave her alone for a while while she acclimates to her new tank but she seems like she really wants me to hold her lol. Should I?

If she is a King and Corn cross then they are called Jungle corns. And not all Jungles have a basic pattern. Which is probably why you don't find any pictures that resemble her. I don't see anything wrong with picking her up for a few minutes to change water or fix her tank. I don't know if I would start holding her all day everyday but if she is already calm and choosing to go on your hand then I don't see a problem.

I know it is tempting, especially when they seem to want to be picked up, but it is better for the snake to let it acclimate for a week before handling.

Think about it like a parent who needs to put their toddler down for a nap. The toddler may not want to lay down, but they need the rest.
Your corn will be with you for years and years. A little patience now ensures that it starts out on a good path.

that seems logical. I know I'm terribly anxious to hold Mrs Ginger and get to know her so my judgment is a little cloudy lol. Thanks! One more quick thing...she's roaming like crazy and rubs her nose on the glass like it itches...I'm sure it doesn't but that's what it looks like lol...normal?

She is testing her boundaries.
When you put a snake in a new enclosure, they will search the whole thing for any escapes or tunnels or hides.
This is why you want to make sure that they can't get out!
Once she is sure of her new surroundings, she will stop checking so often for escape routes.

Snakes love tight hides that they can barely fit into. Make sure she has a couple of those. When she settles down, a tight hide will make her feel safe.

I figured that's what it was, I feel like I did when I brought my human baby home from the hospital lol. I'm second guessing everything I know so I need to chill out and trust myself a bit I think. Thanks for the patience, and help!
