Well, I have several corns that're around 5-8 months old. Can popping them nessecarliy be deadly or have effects when they mature to breed?

There is a chance that you could do damage, if you do it wrong. If you only apply enough pressure, to expose the hemipenes. You should be shown how to do it, before you try. If you know someone who knows how to do it, have them show you or at least try to find some videos on you tube. Also, do not try to do it on a snake that is longer than 18 inches.

Kathy Love posted a couple of videos on her site. Here is the link.

Has to do with the size of the hemipenes and the pressure needed to expose them. It is possible to pop an adult snake, but you are more likely to do damage to the sexual organs, vent or tail.

I've heard that before, don't pop over 18". Could you please explain why? I'm just curious

Because the male has more muscle strength to resist meaning you have to put more pressure to pop....and may hurt the animal without care. Actually, though, larger males CAN be popped if you are careful and do it correctly,,,,but why bother when tail shape gives it away most of the time....and probing is so much easier on larger snakes without the risk of danger from squeezing too hard or misjudging the tail.

I am wanting to pop my snake so bad, because if "he" is not a he, then I would love to buy the ANM in the for sale... so that adds a bit of urgency as well. But I'm nervous. ><
