Questions About Clutching

Hey Guys,

My husband and I own a 7 year old corn snake. We thought she was a he until about three years ago when "he" laid eggs. These are unfertilized eggs, of course, as we have never bred her. She didn't clutch last year and we thought she wasn't going to this year. About a week ago we found an egg in her cage. Since then she's been very inactive and not very responsive to our presence. She hid in her litter for a few days and now has been sitting near the glass for the past few days. Normally she's very curious when we come over to her cage.

I'm wondering if she might still be in the process of clutching. How long can the process last? I also suspect she's about to shed, which also could explain her "melancholy" behavior. But even when she's about to shed, she'll flick her tounge a lot and come towards the glass a bit to greet us. Today she barely acknowledges I was there.

Any ideas or additional info you guys could provide on clutching would be great. Thanks!

This might be a better question to put in the breeding and laying section of the forum. As I understand it, they can lay eggs over a period of days. You should be able to feel the eggs in her if she has any more. You don't want an egg-bound snake if she should happen to have some stuck in there. I'm sure people over in the breeding section will have more experience in this though.
