Signs Of Parturition And Oestrus?

Can anyone tell me the signs of parturition and oestrus please?

I think both of these terms are more mammal related but I'll attempt to answer your question.

We call oestrus 'receptiveness' in cornsnakes and it's not something that must occur during certain hormonal cycles but there are steps you can take to ensure a more receptive female like brumating her in the months leading up to introducing the male.

A female will show receptiveness when she doesn't try to get away from her suitor and will not resist his attempts to lift her tail to gain access to her vent.

Parturition is only a term that refers to live birth so as these snakes lay eggs it's just called 'laying'. The female will most likely refuse food for a period of time upto laying. It could be a week or a month then she will shed about 1 or 2 weeks before she lays. In the few days before laying her spine will seem to be very ridged as if you're looking at an emaciated snake but what's happening is the ligaments that hold her firm are relaxing to help with the passage of the eggs.

Females often get very active in the days leading up to laying and then settle into the lay box in the last part before laying.

Hope that answers your questions!
