Snakes in Limbo :(

lumene

rebuilding my life
Hey guys,

So I need some good karma this month. I have three snakes in limbo between me and another owner... I have run out of money halfway through the sale. *sigh* Somehow I miscalculated by almost a thousand dollars in my budget, including food and rent for December... I could just really use some good thoughts right now guys.

Thanks for reading.

That sucks! Well, I hope you get the $$, or this person decides to play nice. I know about policies and stuff but sometimes you just need to be nice and put yourself in the other person's place. At least that's how I am. Too nice sometimes but at least I feel good about the things I do, even when I've let myself become taken advantage of.

Well the deadline is approaching and I am still screwed...
I have to go see the owner today and aske if he would be willing to extend the deadline.
Its not like I'm not commited, I've been going to visit the snakes several times a week to feed and clean and handle.

I just don't know what I'm going to do if he says no. I was dying to see these boys in proper enclosures and I've been in love with Ramsay for months.

I just don't see myself getting the remainder of the money in 72 hours.

I hate to use them, (but have had to in emergency situations a couple times), but have you thought of a payday loan? If you will have the money in a couple weeks or so, it wouldn't be too bad. You don't want to get yourself in a jam, but if you pay it off on time, you would be out a lot less than what you will lose if you lose your deposit. And you will have your snake. Just a thought.

Payday loans require credit and a steady income don't they?
Money mart or whatever? I could try, I'm just waiting for my student loans to kick in on the 20th of Jan.

They don't do credit checks, but they do require proof of income. Not sure if it would work for you or not. Sorry to not be of more help.

I wa just looking into a few places, if you are/ were on income assistance or disability you do not qualify... then again if disability had given me my cheque I wouldn't be in this mess... but they suspended my cheque when I told them I was going to college...
Arrrrg.

That's the government. I've never known it to be right, or fair, or understanding.
I'll take my chances talking with the owner. My quarterly tax cheque comes on Jan 5th, that should deal with most of the issue.

I hope he will work with you. It's less than a week. Maybe you could offer an extra $50 or so to hold them a few more days for you. I wish you luck. Keep us posted.

That's just wrong. I am sorry.

How is it wrong? They had an agreement. OP didn't follow through.

OP, if you didn't have the money for the snakes, you shouldn't have bought them.

We all have things that we want and things that we need. Which category do you think a pet snake falls in?

You say snakes, plural. If all else fails, can't you apply the paid money toward just one or two (don't know how many you're trying to buy), rather than losing that money completely? I know it would suck not to be able to get all of them, but there's no reason you can't get something for your money if you've already sent enough to pay off one of them.

Just a thought. Good luck!

I agree with vliberatore. I feel quite certain that public assistance, student loans and payday loans do not exist so that the tax-payers can buy people snakes.

The government is unfair?? Really?

You can't afford these snakes. Let them go.

Wow. I don't know why I would be shocked at the above comments, but I am.

First off, the OP wasn't asking for help, or even a pity party. They were just sharing their situation and hoping things would work out. I don't feel that harsh comments are really necessary.

To vlieratore....I was stating my opinion that is was wrong for the govt to withdraw help to a disabled person just because they were going to get an education so they could better themselves. The statement I made was not in reference to the breeder at all, who is within his rights to not agree to an extension of the original agreement.

To srsb...I agree with you as far as the govt assistance and student loans BUT payday loans are there for the company to make money...not unlike a bank. Under your theory, no one should get a loan for a car or house because they can't afford to pay cash outright. If someone has the ability to pay back the loan, it is their business what they spend the money on.

Really, I don't understand why anyone should comment on a thread just so they can bash someone. Sometimes it is better to keep your thoughts to yourself.

I agree with Sierra on this one!

Vlieratore, you are so way off key here. A disabled person shouldn't lose their disablity payment simply for going to school. Not sure how Canada works on that part, but here in the states it wouldnt happen.

Srsb, I dont belive public assistances aka welfare should be used for snakes. However, a payday loan or student loans are the individuals, to spend any way they want and it does not come out of the tax payers pocket. I don't see how you can even think it would!

My husband is a disabled veteran and goes to school. He has used part of his disability payment to buy himself a snake. How is that wrong?

I am with Sierra, why comment on a thread just to be mean. She was using it to vent not to get someone to give her anything but moral support. Lumene actually does a lot in the snake world and animal world in rescuing animals in bad situations and rehoming to their forever homes! Perhaps some shouldnt pass such harsh judgement onto others.

She would be paying back the pay day loan with money from the taxpayers that the government is giving her for school and survival expenses. The government is not in the business of buying people $1300 worth of snakes. That was my point. You say that "If someone has the ability to pay back the loan". Well, she does not have the ability to pay back the loan unless the government gives her the money.

I am not trying to "bash" her. Just point out what is perhaps a more rational course of action.

Student Loans are not from the government, they are from privite institutions. You are required to pay them back after you finish your education!
