    My New King

It's a Florida King, although I've not seen many that have the Orange coloration; that seems to be more of a Brooks King trait.... Does rattle a little, does not musk profusely or bite the way my Cal King used to. Someone else thought it looks lik a mosaic morph, which haven't been cb as long...

    snake and dog?

Hello, I've not posted in ages. Currently I have an adult male bp, about 3', and an 8 lb toy dog. When I buy a house in the near future and have room, I would like to expand my snake collection. I've been doing lots of research, as I've not owned a corn in some time. My primary concern is...

    Bad Experience Euthanizing Dog

I posted on here perhaps a couple years ago about my two chihuahuas' declining health and the whole end of life issue pet owners deal with. Thanks for the support you showed. I lost my female longhair on 27 July last year. She died naturally. I scheduled euthanasia but back out. It's a...

    Coming Out to Friend

I have a friend visiting me later this year for about a week. He'll be staying in my home. He's terrified of snakes, and I have 6. (I suppose he has a good reason to be scared of them as he's from South Africa, which is home to puff adders, mambas and other dangerous species.) I intend to...

    Landlords

As I'm going to be moving soon, I have to admit I'm very nervous about having to tell prospective landlords that I own pet snakes. I'm guessing a large number won't want any part of that, which means housing options will be limited if I'm to keep my animals. How have others dealt with this...

    Graveyard Garter

Does anyone else find that cemeteries are a great place to find herps? Saw a huge common garter in my local cemetery, quite fat. It lives in a hole in the ground right behind a grave stone. I sometimes walk through the cemetery and when I find it out and approach, it heads for cover beneath...

    Substrate: Processed Straw/Hay?

I saw the stuff fairly cheap in my local Bomgaars (a franchise similar to Lowes and Menards). Would it be acceptable substrate for a corn?

    Sad News

I don't post here much, and I don't really know anyone here, but I have to share. Our family received a huge blow this week. My niece's daughter, who will be 3 this summer, has been sick for months. Trouble sleeping, crying, swollen face, and doctors kept saying nothing could be found wrong...

    Snake Churches

Does anyone have a theory as to why these people aren't bitten/killed more often than they are? I've watched a few videos of such services and the snakes generally appear quite docile and calm. Fascinating, really. *Scratches head* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObhvOeNCKhs

    Cleaning My Dog's Water Bowl

My dogs' auto-waterer gets slimy and stinky inside, and I can't reach inside to scrub it. Bleach-water (same solution used to clean snake stuff) hasn't seemed to get rid of it. Is there something I can spray inside of it to clear the gunk out?

    Shedding Blues

Now that the air's drier, my snakes are having terrible sheds. As you can see, my KSB has some old skin stuck to his head, covering his eyes. I've been misting the aspen substrate, but it doesn't seem to be helping much. I just gave it another really good wet-down. I do have terrarium moss...

    My New Snake

Saw this guy advertised on Craigslist and now he's mine! Mojave male, 2yo, 2.5'. He's very handle friendly and I even pet his head with no reaction. He has some shed stuck to his head, so I altered a tupperware container into a hide and filled it with some moistened beaked moss (it was...

Preparing for and Coping with Pet Loss

This is a difficult subject to bring up, but my dogs are 12 and 13 and I can sense that they are gradually nearing the end. Their eyesight is poor and they have slowed down alot. My male is becoming covered in little tumors, which I understand is common for old dogs, and has a large fatty...

    Corn and other snakes

This is perhaps a stupid question but I'm not too proud to ask. Is it stressful to a corn to house it in the same room as other herps? Obviously I see it done all the time, especially with rack systems. But say I get a California king and after isolation it ends up in the same room as a corn...

    Moving Corn into Different Terrarium?

I started my baby corn out in a 20 gallon (76 litre) long glass aquarium. It's taking up so much room in my place and I'm thinking I'd like to move her into something smaller, probably a Sterilite sweater box type of contraption. What size should I go with? Shoe box seems awfully small for a...
