Corn snakes are now illegal in Vermont

I just received a notice from the Vermont department of natural resources notifying me of a new law that is effective on January 24, 2008 which bans the possession or sale of corn snakes without a permit. It is interesting that many other varieties of pet snakes are allowed, but corn snakes are...

    Ultramel Blood Yearling

This guy was the first ultramel blood we hatched last year. He has really turned a stunning deep red over the past year; much brighter than any blood or hypo blood we've seen before! This is what he looked like last year as a hatchling: Quite a difference, eh?

    Ultramel Bloods

This year we were lucky enough to hatch 5 of these beauties! They came from the breeding of a female het for ultra, blood, and motley to a male amelanistic blood (both Don S. line) enjoy :)

    Ultramel Bloods - just shed!

Well... they finally shed! I've been waiting all week so I could get some new pictures. We ended up having three ultramel bloods hatch (all males), and after they shed, their colors REALLY began to stand out. :flames: Now, tonight is feeding night... so we'll just have to see how that goes...

    Ultramel Blood---WOOO HOOO!!!!

Just hatched today!! He came from a female het for blood, motley, and 50% poss het ultra that we bred to an amel blood male. So far, this is the only snake that has hatched from that clutch, so we've still got 1 in 4 chances on 12 more eggs!! I'll post more pictures after he sheds.

    Culling bad mouse groups

This is a general question regarding what to do when a group of mice do not produce. I have a lot of mice, and occasionally will have a group that will not produce. In some cases, I have sucessfully introduced a new male, but most of the time, even with a new male, the group still doesn't...

    Man Eating Corn Snake

I had the strangest thing happen the other day. When I was feeding a group of hatchlings, one of them grabbed hold of my little finger and started constricting on it. This was very strange behavior, so I just let him go to see when he would let go. But the little bugger just kept going and...

    Early Brumating

Many of my corns are bulked up and ready for brumation, but obviously the 80+ degree outside temps are still too warm to start them. I was thinking about taking a small window size air conditioner and putting it in my snake room with the cool side in the closet where I put the snakes for...

    Egg-bound Surgery

I have read several posts regarding egg binding where the treatment by a vet was to surgically remove the bound eggs. I have had 2 females become egg bound, and I was able to take care of both nicely by either aspirating the egg with a large diameter hypodermic syringe or by manipulation of...

    Corn snakes and loud noise

I have an email question from a prospective corn snake owner in UK who is having trouble with his forum registration, and he can't get a post to go through. So here is his question: Mark i play the drums in my room alot, and i wondered if the vibrations, or loud noise would stress the snake...

    Paper towel for shipping

I notice that Rich uses a different looking paper towel in his deli cups when he ships hatchlings. Is this some special kind of paper towel? Does it have some benefit over a regular store brand type paper towel? Mark
