    Happy Mother's/Nerodia Day?

My Sweetie slept in on Mother's day, so I did my usual thing and headed down to the river for a few hours. The temperature was decent, no jacket required, and the sun was in and out of light cloud cover. Conditions like that after the water warms up a bit in spring are perfect for basking...

    November watersnake

I was in our local National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday and I was very surprised to see a Northern Water snake (nerodia sipedon). I get out every weekend and I haven't seen a snake for the last six weeks. Recently we've had several nights in the upper 30's and a few frost warnings.

    Early snakes in VA

I have a few pics from the past two weekends. So far it's just been garters and watersnakes, which is normal for here. Maybe tomorrow I'll turn up something different. Some morning T.s.sirtalis pics. All three within about a 45 minute time frame, when the sun got just high enough to shine...

    Cheerio's annual Halloween post

Happy Halloween! It was raining here for the evening so Cheerio couldn't go out trick-or-treating. She stayed inside and gave out treats tonight. Don't ask me about the pirate thing, her choice.

I'll go to Arlington National Cemetery for you today

If anybody has someone at Arlington I will be glad to visit their memorial today for you. I think they place flags on all the graves, I can get some flowers. I'll add a pebble if you want, I'm not sure if they will leave them there. I'll take a camera. PM me early today if I can do this for you...

    Cheerio the Creative.

I've always been good at making things and improvising, figures I would have a snake that's the same way. My Cheerio shed this morning and made herself a nice little head rest. It's either that or it's a comment on how long it was taking me to remove it...

    Air and Space

Okay, I don't have desert vistas where I live, but we have a heck of a lot of museums. Sunday my Sweetie and I went to the National Air and Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center. The place is Fantastic! There are so many aircraft and other artifacts displayed we only saw a little over half of the...

    Cheerio's "just an amel" photos.

Cheerio was out for a viv-cleaning so I tried some "glamour shots". Here's my mustardy girl in a ball: She doesn't stay in a ball very long, and this is after about 45 minutes of exercise: Not the greatest pic, but I noticed it showed her orange spot. If you look where the front part of...

    Wintertime in Virginia

I went to my National Wildlife Refuge today. I thought maybe I would get some eagle pics, it's a bit late in the year for herps........NOT. I found turtles: I found frogs: A guy walking the other way said he saw a Northern Water Snake at a place I've seen them before so I believe him...

    Wild Garter size question.

I saw this Eastern Garter at work this week and I'm sure it's the largest I have seen( that I remember). I measured some parts of the pic in real life and got an av. of about 31.5" of visible length with Serpwidget's app, so it may have been almost 3'. It also had a nice thick body. I looked...

    Cheerio sub-substrate

I was planning on getting a shot of Cheerio's faded head pattern last weekend for rivernamir's head pattern thread. I grabbed my daughter's camera, opened the viv top.........uh, no head. I was about to get her body and find her head and I saw a moving bulge in the Reptibark, just like when Bugs...

    Selena the "watchdog"

They finally posted Selena's picture on the rescue center's (Pups 2 Luv) website. And here she is on Petfinder I took her for a walk and run the other day, she's doing great there. She still needs a real home, but I think it won't take long now that she is posted with pics.

    It's no picnic...

...without some wildlife. Cheerio came outside when I was waiting for my steaks to finish cooking. She did not want to stay put, even for a beer A little blurry, but it shows her size Hey, does this table make my butt look big?

Out of work dog needs a home, Northern VA

Northern VA/Springfield area... Can you give an out of work yard dog a home? She wasn't really good at her job and got replaced. We just got a video surveillance system at work and she's going to the shelter on Monday (6-15) if she's still at work. Be a shame to see a good pup like this killed...

    Hook-up day at work

I'm pretty sure these two hooked up near the dog pen at work. The guys called me and said there were two snakes. At first I thought that was unlikely, then I thought about the time of year. The snake behind the fence I've seen before and got pictures. Today I measured it at 5 of my boots toe to...

    Cheerio meets Kryptonite

My wife Sonia and Nicole (member NFS07) are taking our snakes to Nicole's sister's school on Thursday. We met in person today (she's really nice). She came over to my house with Kryptonite, her beauteous Okeetee. The weather was really good today so we took them outside for a bit. I got a few...

    Great Falls VA herps

A friend of my daughter went to Great Falls on the Potomac River just a few miles northwest of Washington D.C. and sent her these pics. The terrain is rocky rivershore, with cliffs and isolated pools of water. It's a little surprising to see these pictures, the area attracts a lot of human...

Now I know where all the water goes! -video-

Caught my "dainty" girl today tunneling under her bowl. I saw a flash in the viv from light on the water. I was like"what's that?". It was "the re-arranger", crusher of fake plants, shelving tipper, and now dumper of water; Cheerio. Here she is in action
