Hello. I've been thinking about getting a pet for a while, but have been debating on what. Currently I am leaning toward a corn snake because they are good for beginners and they can be extremely beautiful. I have absolutely no experience with snakes though so I'm holding off on making a decision until I can at least handle one. Which, by some amazing coincidence, will be soon; one of my best friends has been offered an adult amel. She's going to go pick her up in a little under a month so I should be able to decide shortly after that.

Its this snake that has brought me here though. After reading several care sheets it seems this amel needs a new vivarium. She's about 3.5' to 4' and in a small aquarium, maybe a 20 gallon high if we're extremely generous. In it she has a heat rock, a water bowl and a stick. No hides at all, but she's supposed to be friendly and eats well so I guess she's doing okay. Anyway, I need a project to work on, my friend is short on money (aren't we all,) so I've offered to make a vivarium for her. I have several silly questions for the DIY people and a few odd ones. I have experience with making cages, but they were generally for rodents so this will be a fun new challenge. I guess I'm done rambling for now.

I'll make my friend sign up on here soon.

Hope to see you around. Need to house that snake cheaply? Get a Sterilite tub from walmart. :D Melt some holes for air circulation with a soldering iron.

Then all you need is an undertank heater, a thermostat and a water bowl. :D
