Hatchling VERY active right after feeding!

Hi! I am a new corn snake owner and new to the forum. I just got my female baby Okeetee this Saturday (3 days ago), and today I fed her for the first time, after not handling her at all since I got her. She ate the pinkie right away (I fed her in a separate tub and she got really scared when I moved her to the container). Since I moved her back to her aquarium, she just DIDN'T STOP cruising around! She is very active, and now it's been almost two hours since she ate. Is it normal? I thought snakes would calm down right after they ate in order to digest.
Thank you!
Felipe

i really have no idea if its normal or not, but my female goes and relaxes after feeding but my male goes all over the place after feeding

I have one that goes and hides and one who still acts hungry and cruises. If you are feeding enough and your temps are correct and your snake has enough places to hide comfortably, then i would say that is just normal for the snake. I am assuming you have your setup correct though.

But, as I said, one of my corns is extremely active for about an hour after eating. If your baby does not regurgitate the meal, she is probably OK.

Sounds pretty normal to me... some just take longer to get over the feeding response I think :) I am sure once she gets more used to you and her new home and feeding schedule that she will be more calm after eating :)

Honestly I wouldnt have fed her after 3 days....I wouldve waited a minimum 7 days to let her settle in. She may not have been cruising then, she wouldve been settled into her new home. Their still uncomfortable/unsure after 3 days.

Well Justine, I fed her after three days because a guy that breeds snakes looked at her and told me that, by her behaviour, she was feeling pretty confident in her new cage, and that I could go ahead and feed her... That's why I did it! But now she's sitting still along the glass, on the cool side (which is 73 degrees right now)... I think my baby girl is doing fine! Thanks for the attention!

It may be instinct. In the wild, they'd be more likely to find a nest of pinkies than just one on its own, and eat the lot as they wouldn't know when they'd next find food.

It's possible that a hatchling might look for "the rest" of them, as it doesn't realise that the next meal is guaranteed to magically arrive in a few days time.
