Did you ever try to show somebody your prized pet Corn Snake only to find it invisible in its hide during the day? Exoterra has a couple of excellent magnetic rocks to solve this problem but I encountered a couple of problems with that solution.

I bought both models of their hides and they work great except that when kids take off the outer rock to view the snakes, they sometimes lift it up along the glass causing the inside rock piece to crash to the bottom of the tank with an upset snake inside. The other problem I had was when the kids would go to replace the outside rock, the magnetic attraction was so strong that the inside and outside pieces of the rock would slam together sometimes pinching the poor snake in between.
I arrived at a relatively simple solution by taping Velcro to the outside of the tank as shown here

Since I am basically a cheapskate and a do it yourselfer, I stumbled upon an even easier, cheaper and safer solution for my snakes. I gathered a small log from the forest, cut it in half length-wise, sterilized it in the microwave on high for 5 minutes, wedged it into the tank against the glass, added Velcro and Voila!

Sorry, but we couldn't do anything about this post as it would delete the entire thread. It's okay, though. We all make mistakes at one time or another.
