African House Snakes

Well here I was taking pics on feeding day so that I could show off these beautiful snakes and tell everyone that they are my favorite snakes to keep, and two of them go and bite me. They really are quite docile usually, but I think they were a bit hungry today. These suckers have some pretty long teeth for such small snakes.
1. My first Brown phase House Snake Female (in blue)
2. Brown phase male 66% het albino
3. Green phase female (bit me)
4. Green phase male (bit me)
5. Red phase male

Very cool. Python heads on colubrid bodies. What makes them your favorite snakes? It's not the color :) I've thought about getting one, but I can't find a reliable caresheet. I read one which said they don't need a heat pad. And then I read another which says they need a 90 hot end. Do you have any insight?

I love 'em cause of their attitude and their color. They have an iridescence that is pretty nice. They are great to handle too (when they don't try and make a meal of your finger.) Very interactive snakes. They have an amazing feeding response and they breed year round without brumation. Here is a website about their care- http://www.kingsnake.com/housesnake/ -I found that their care is pretty much the same as my North American Colubrids. A little more humidity is required during shed time though. They tend to have problems shedding when it's dry. I highly recommend getting one or two or five :)

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.

African House snakes are absolutely cool!! I have four, 2 from this year and 2 from '04.
But i don't know about the 'phases' you are talking about, can you perhaps explain that to me? I have one here that is almost olive-green..
Are those phases proven in anyway??

The phases are more of a locality thing or line bred, like Okeetee or Miami phase in corns. The house snakes from Uganda, for example, are more of a green color, and are refered to as Green phase, whereas the House Snakes from Tanzania tend to have more of a red color so they are refered to as red phase. Brown phase are the "normals" but are in no way less beautiful than the others.

And these are my '04 Housesnakes. I don't really care about their colours, they are fun to keep anyway!!!!
'04 housesnakes

Those are very nice looking too. You know, I never thought their colors were drab like others do. Whe you see them in person, is when you really notice that it is no an ugly, bland brown. And the Green phase are amazing looking. And again, this snake is just a fun one to keep.
