I REP VW
Me and my dad were bored this weekend so we decided to make a new cage for my corn snake. it took a while but it only cost us about 40$ to make :)

we used baltic birch wood for the sides on the bottom and top. the bottom is melamine (whatever that is..), and the sides are plexiglass. we also used two magnets on each sides to keep it down. Thank you very much! :)

we were kinda just winging it on this cage and we are probably going to make another one for my python once she gets bigger! im glad it turned out ok.

Very handy! Its looks fabulous! I especially like the top with the magnets and handle to open it.

That is really cool Rick! It looks so much better than all the fish aquariums I'm currently using around here (that my daughter and boyfriend want to steal for fish). Luckily, I'm waiting for my tax check to start out on my elaborate, multi-sized unit snake condo. I only hope the quality of work I produce looks anything close to what you guys did. Good work!

Thanks you two! my dad is really good at wood working, and he is very creative. i would have never thought to lock the cage with magnets! i would have had just weighed it down with junk. good luck with making your own!

Thanks Rick. I was planning on using those magnet type door closures on the front of mine to close the plexiglass doors. It sounds like it would work, according to what you've done. My dad has a whole bunch of new wood working tools in his "basement shop" and seems to really know what he's doing too. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one looking to their dad on advice for this; though I'm 32 years old and still Daddy's little gir. Hay hay for good daddies! Your snakey looks very happy and healthy, by the way. You're still the one who made me happy that most of my pippies are going to be normals. Thanks.

Haha yeah my little guy never misses a meal so he's been growing really fast! im glad i made you happy about getting normals! they really are quite pretty snakes :)

by the way i tried to give you rep but it seems i've given it to you recently and cant right now, sorry! :)

By the way guys would this be big enough to house an adult corn?

I can't tell by the pic; but do you think it has about the same amount of floor space as a 20 gallon aquarium? I think they say that that's usually efficient. If not, I guess you'll be needing to buy yourself another corn to put in there. You know you can always check out what Amanda has down at www.twistedserpent.com when her babies pip. (I know you know the address, but I still like to spread her good rep around.) Weren't you thinking about that anyway? Quite the enabler I am today. Sorry. Not
(And thank you about the rep business. That was nice of you.)

well my 20 gal i keep my python in right now is 29" x 11"
and the one i made now is 31" X 17.5 so its a little bigger than the 20. haha im not sure if i can get another snake right now. My mom has a two snake limit right now (even though i have 4!) but im trying to convince her to let me get a baby blood.

From what I've read, I think you're good with that new setup of yours. I have a snake that is supposed to be three years old in a 20 and he seems to have more than enough room. Granted, this is a snake I got from someone who had other snakes, but wasn't a "corn snake person". She said she "rescued" him from someone who was only feeding him once a month. I've decided that he's either not three years old, or is growing a bit now for me. Sorry. Long story. He's under four feet, but, with his personality at least, seems to have more than enough room. My big girl (from Amanda) is in a 55 gallon, granted; but I'm pretty sure that's more so I can look at her and the tank and not that she really cares.
That's funny to hear about your two snake (with you having four). I think you may have mentioned that before. If you did, I appologize. I had a two cat limit in the house with my daughter. We know have three and every time my daughter's little girl escapes, she hopes she gets pregnant. (She's an indoor cat and the only one not spayed.) I tried to put a limit on fish too, but got overrun by both the boyfriend and 10 yr. old daughter. It's a good thing they both like corns because I'm the master of this house and there will never be a limit on that one. Haha.
Seriously, that's really good that your mom is letting you have 4 (cough, cough;) I mean two snakes. I wasn't able to have any pets growing up, not even a fish. Maybe I'm making up for it now.
Sorry for rambling. I think I'm sleep deprived again.
I think your stunning new viv is going to be good for at least quite a while.

Haha i wish my mom was more like you!! thanks again! and to explain my four snakes, my corn and python were supossed to be the only snakes in the house, but a week or two ago i went down to a nature reserve in bloomington and found a water snake and a garter snake and brought them both home! im going to give the water snake to jim (tricksterpup), as soon as i find him that is.. (he got out in my room somewhere! door was shut though so he's trapped in there somewhere) and i think im letting the garter go soon, i just wanted to keep him for a while. :)
