Bulbs?

I have a desk light that I don't use, and I want to use it for my snake even though it isn't meant for it. I would only turn it on in the afternoon when I'm still awake but my closet (where I keep my snake) is dark.

I assume the bulb it has would bother the snake, so is there/what kind of bulb could I get?

What's the difference between the red and regular bulbs ect..

I use a fish tank light for my viewing pleasure of the viv. I leave if on during the natural daylight hours of whatever season it is. And I use it when work with the snake or in the viv.
If you can point the light so if the snake looks at it it won't blind it (and if it's a low watt too) that would help. I don't believe in red light are needed for corns.

I used red LEDs for night viewing. It's nice because it doesn't seem to bother my snake. We don't have to turn on the room lights to see her and she acts the same at night if the lights are on or off. It's not nice for the way it makes everything monochromatic, everything is just different shades of red.

Hmm...Well what kind of bulb could I put in this regular desk light in order to use in whenever during the day and have it not bother the snake?

or is that not possible with a desk light.

Whats the difference between the red blue dark purple bulbs??

Can they all be used on the snake without bothering him? or does any and all light bother him?

My understanding is that the snakes cannot 'see' the red lights used for heat.

Are you just wanting to be able to see the snake? Not for heating purposes?

Our snakes are in bedrooms with full day light and room lights, lamps running kids etc.

As long as you have hides for your little guy he can be comfortable in his hides while you are going about your business...

You will most likely not see him out much during the afternoon anyway...being nocturnal and all...
Unless your little one is like ours and seems to peek out whenever we come into the room:)

Haha ya. Well I am fine on heat, I just want to be able to see him at night until I go to sleep. So what kind of bulb, if there is one, could go in my desk light and shiny down on the tank?

A red light would probably be your best bet overall...just make sure you check the wattage rating of the light fixture and don't exceed it...speaking from experience;)

Of course in our house the lights are on in the room until the kids are in bed at about 8:30-9:00.

We have also used those 7 watt night light bulbs (they are the same size base as a regular bulb...so they fit in a standrad light fixture) and those are great too...esp since you are not leaving it on all night anyway...

Sure, that's why everyone is here...to chat about what we have learned:)

Have a great night:cheers:
