Ok I've had this snake for about 2 months now, he is the most gentle snake in the world. My mother has a phobia of snakes.... This snake, she held him and it broke her phobia, she LOVES snakes now.

Well Here are some pictures, I think he is a Northern Water Snake.... I don't know exactly though, he's still a baby.

Please excuse the no shirt.... It gets humid here in ohio :crazy01:

Anyways here is a Belly Shot.

Identify my guy!!!

Looks like a water snake to me. I haven't been able to find any water snakes near me really, its a shame I think they are really cool snakes. What have you been feeding him?

Definitely some sort of Water Snake (genus Neroidia).....you've had it for 2 months and didn't know what it was? How have you been able to care for it properly without even knowing what species it is?

I caught it in the water. Though all snakes are swimmers, so I took it for grant it and decided to feed him minnows.

Rosie Reds, Minnows, Feeder Fish... Any of those three, then when he gets bigger maybe, just maybe furies.

I was shocking with a group from MD DNR fisheries once, and we shocked up a black rat snake, about 5-6' long. Big one.

They don't eat fish. ;)

Yours does look like a water snake to me, though I admit I am no expert in them... have only ever seen a couple.

Try to avoid rosey reds and goldfish, they have a emzyne in them that blocks the absorbition of vitamin B and can kill your snake. Fish like guppies, sliversides(they are in with the frozen fish food), salmon, trout, and most other food fish are better food choices.

Ok, thanks for all of the input... Still looking for someone who can exactly identify my little dude here!
Thanks again everyone.

I'd also say hes big enough to switch onto pinkie mice too. There are a couple tricks that work if you want to try it.

Well, eh, guppies are .1 more!!! I can't afford that!!!! haha, ok I'll get some guppies the next time.

You should breed them... seriously.... it's a little difficult, the formula is:

Guppies
Water
Food

And you get babies.

Seriously, they are insanely simple to breed and keep, and you could ensure you aren't feeding any diseased stock. And you can just euth and freeze them for later if you want.

Baby corn snakes are about that big and they can handle pinks, same with my garters(infact they are smaller). If he's growing uo fine now and eating well you don't have to but done the line when he starts getting big guppies aren't going to be making the cut anymore. When that time comes I'd be glad to help you switch him over!

Yea I should try breeding then.
Just get what? 3 maybe 4? Put them in a container and feed them once a day?(I've literally NEVER kept a fish in my life)

Sure, when i guess he's ready I'll send you a PM.

It's a little more complicated than that, if you want to keep them humanely and properly... if you want more info, shoot me a PM, I'm an avid fish keeper.

I've been looking at some pix and I'm 98% sure that hes a North Water Snake. I also agree breeding guppies would save a ton of money in the long run (they may be cheap but they add up over time). I'd love to get my hands on a water snake some day, but then again I'd love to get a lot of things some day lol.

just a northern water. dealt with them a lot in my life fishing and running canoes for my uncle on the Allegheny. and many lakes i fish have them too. theyre a cool snake but how is you set up. i hope its not all water, and i hope its not all land. they need a mixture of both. and will need a good amount of both when older. how often do you clean out the water too and do water changes. if hes pooping in his water it needs to be cleaned a lot.

well brew... I'm going back to where we caught him... We saw 5 or 6. If i get a female and breed them, would you want one?
(Im going to there tomorrow)

Ok, I'll try and answer all the questions I see XD.

No it isn't all water, It's Pine chips and water.
Nope it's not all land.
I clean out the water every two weeks, The cage every three, or when needed.
Yes he does "poo" in the water, so I just dump it out the window (On the ground) and get him new water.

Why not use some aspen for bedding? Pine isn't the best and you can get literal bales of aspen cheap at shows or local farm supply stores.
