New From St Louis

Hi I'm new to corn snakes, and may have plenty of questions to come, but have been taking the day to check the site out and gather info. I got 2 corns today in trade for 3, 6 week bearded dragons. I was given an amelistic and a snow. sex unknown. Both are in 20 gallon long tanks with 2 hides one in the heated side and one on the unheated side. a water dish in the unheated side and I'm using reptile carpet as I'm allergic to wood based substrates. I had considered using shredded newspaper but I wasn't so sure about that.

They have eaten for the breeder, he said 6 times. he also said that they were eating pinks and fuzzies... I feel that they probably shouldn't have been fed fuzzies as I felt they are too big for the little bitty snakes. I'll post pics of them and if anyone wants to let me know that would be awesome. I'm pretty sure he was feeding live and I would LOVE to get them started on f/t pinks. I'll try feeding them f/t pinks on Saturday which is 5 days after they last ate. If anyone has pointers that would be awesome also.

I started my little ones out in 10g's but I have read others to start with 20L. The advice that was given was to make sure there are plenty of hides available. Use toliet paper or paper towel rolls for cheap solutions. If there is too much "open" space the little ones can feel "lost" and stress out...

Shredded newspaper is fine they like to burrow a lot so they'll feel more secure with something more than carpet. I agree stick to pinks every 5 days and I would place them in a deli cup for their first few feeds with the warmed pink brained, put it in the cage off the heat, cover the cage, and leave without peeking for an hour. Seeing as their used to live it may take some time, but if your patient most eventually cave in and eat

Yay Saint Louis! We're about 1 hour south of there. We started out with a snow and an amel too....however its grown a little more than I expected. Just a heads up the 25th is the reptile show in South County you should check it out even if its just to talk to some great people. Great having you!

Also If you want to get them sexed I know a guy in Saint Charles who probes them for $5.

Thanks for the welcome. I've been to the south county reptile show 3 times now its awesome. That's where I got my older female dragon. can't wait too.

I am having trouble thinking of names for them. I think I'm going to name the snow Ayame, but I'm at a loss with the amelanistic.

Since they haven't been genderified yet, perhaps androgonous names would be best, such as "Pat", or "Chris". Welcome to the forums. Your pink snow is quite lovely, and the amel is a nice bright one. St. Louis is a great town. Welcome. dp

Good photos too, it's nice to see pictures with something immediately recognizeable to give a sense of "scale" or "size" to the subject in the pictures. Coca-cola cans with Arabic text work well too. ;D
