Hello! FINALLY got a snake!

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum. I worked in several pet shops as a teenager, and owned every kind of pet imagineable at one point or another - except snakes (I loved them, but my mom didn't!). At 46 years old with 2 kids, I finally got my first corn snake from a local breeder - a little male amel. We love him so much, we decided to get him a future girlfriend. We brought the little girl home and put her in her own tank, and within a day, she had disappeared on us. :awcrap: My 9-year-old daughter would have been heartbroken (and a little freaked out about a snake in the house!), so I went out while she was at school and got another look-alike female. Within a day, SHE had disappeared as well! At this point, I figured we were destined to not have more than one snake and began to clean out the tank. I picked up a log decoration, and discovered a tiny hole in the bottom - the decoration was hollow, and guess where BOTH snakes were??!! Well, I managed to lure them out, plugged up the hole, and got another tank. So, we went from NO snakes to THREE snakes within a few weeks! LOL We've got Rio (male), Starkist and Coco (females). We love them all! I'll post pictures as soon as I take some!

Hi there and Welcome the the addiction.. oh I mean the forum of course :D Snakes are sneaky, especially the little ones. We love pics so when you get them we would love to see. Let us know if you have any questions.

LOL they are crazy little buggers aren't they. Glad they are all safe and well. I remember one time I had one major scare with one who buried itself under the aspen. I frantically pretty much emptied out the whole tank before I found him. I was happy and angry at the same time, LOL. Congratulations and welcome to the fourm. Oh and I went from one to three snakes rather quickly myself, but my issue was self control.

You know, that's one funny thing I've noticed (and am experiencing personally) - Just like Lays potato chips - you can't have just one! LOL! I haven't noticed this phenomenon with any other pet. I've already started looking around for another male - I have to have PAIRS, of course - can't have an odd number of snakes!

Welcome to the forum, Kalena! :wavey: How great that both of your snakes turned up!! Looks like you have quite a zoo down there. I'm the same age as you with two kids, 6 snakes, two dogs, a cat, a few fish tanks and a hedgehog. We'll do anything for our kids, right? ;)

Make yourself at home. We're looking forward to getting to know you and seeing photos, too!
