1 rheostat, 2 uth's

I bought a rheostat that has 2 plugs in it to control temperature. I have 2 tanks side by side, 2 uth's plugged into the 1 rheostat. There is a 10 degree temperature difference. I got home the other day and one tank was around 81 degrees, the other over 90 and I can't seem to bring it down. Both uth's were purchased in the last 6 months, both Zoomed. Has anybody ever experienced this and would it be best to get 1 rheostat per cage? I finally had to put a piece of cardboard over the hotter uth and it's now running about the same temperature as the other cage. I've taped the cardboard down with aspen bedding over it so the snake does not burrow underneath but I'm confused on why there is such a big gap in the temperature readings.

Id venture to guess that one just runs hotter then the other. These are pet supplies and doubt the manufacture realy tests them to see if they heat to an exact temp. They are probably tested to meet a max output but not much more. Your rheostat is only controling the heat by limiting the amount of electricty the mats are being feed. If they differ in heat output, then the temps will most certainly be different.

As far as needing a seperate rheostate... i would image that is up to you. If your comfortable with adjusting one tank useing cardboard, cool. If not get a seprate rheostat.
