1 Week ownership update!

Ok so it will be one week tomorrow since I owned Ichiro. He so far has been doing great. He has been spending ALOT of time up in the trees.

The 2nd day I had him he shed, perfect one at it as well. I fed him friday and he took it, BUTt FIRST!!! :) But thing that worried me was the fact that after he ate his meal, he went to the cold side and sat there for 3 days while digesting. Is that normal? But ya I was a little concerned.

Took him out today cuz it was 3 days since he ate and played with him a bit. I seemed really calm, except when my uncle came and got in is face, he started freakin a little, so my uncle backed off, lol *sigh*. I played with him for about 15 min and put him back and ya.

Here in AZ we had a week long storm. Since it is winter, the rain made it a bit colder which lowed my tanks temp to 80 so I turned it up a little for the time being (this was like last Thursday) and came today with it at about 89. Freaked and lowered it, but all good now.

Still hasnt pooped, not sure if he has drank at all, but hope he has. But other than all that, he has been doing great! Just thought I would give a weeks update since he is my first baby :)

But ya any suggestions or ideas on why he chose the cold side while digesting instead of the warm? And will he poop soon? and is he drinking? I've showed him the waterdish, even set him in it a little.

Just wanted to ask these small questions and make an update all in one post so sorry if its in the wrong section :)

So is the cold side really cold? Cause I know that if the hot side gets to hot they wont go over there. Do you have an under-tank heater? cause if u stuck it to the bottom, the glass could be too hot and might burn the snake if it goes over it. Mine is just setting under the tank. The babies I purchased had been given well water, and in my apartment it is city water. I wondered if the chemicals in the water put the snakes off from drinking it. Wasn't sure if it did, but now I get bottled purified water for them. Just because I think they are worth it. Mine drink the water but I have yet to see them coil up in it, but then again I don't have all day to sit and watch them lol

Did you just show him the water dish or did you say, “This is the water dish where you will be getting your drinking and bath water”? Snakes are not very smart, you got to explain it in plain simple English.

Does the snake know where the bathroom is? Have you shown him?

Well OK, the real reason you gave the snake a temperature gradient was so it could choose where he was the most comfortable. In nature the snake moves in and out of the shade, under a rock or out into the sun, what ever, as he chooses. Your snake is doing that now. You have created a wonderful environment for him. He would say thank you if he could speak. Have you tried to teach him sign language?

Snakes don’t drink much water. The water in the bowl will evaporate long before the snake drinks it. Your snake spends part of the day and a lot of the night exploring his environment. He know where the water is and what to do with it.

If your snake is a baby and it is on aspen or pine shavings it is very likely you won’t see the first poop. I know that is a disappointment. My children are grown and gone and I’ve never seen any of their poop. But that is a different story. Rest assured if your snake is eating it is pooping. It is one of the laws of nature.

No it sits at about 70-72

.
I have it stuck to the bottom. but my thermometer says its 87, which is a lil high, but I do have a rheostat which Im using till I get a thermostat cuz no matter how low I get the rheostat down to, it sits at 87 so i have to get a thermostat where I can actually set temp I want.

Our home has a purified water system and tap water for general cleaning. I use the purified water to fill his bowl.

Well there's yur problem. Snakes drink from mud puddles and rain filled hoof prints from the cattle. With stuff in them. You know what I mean?

Yeah wade snakes in the wild have built an immunity to water from ponds and junk. I read that bacteria can grow in the water if not changed regularly and cleaned, and that can get our snakes sick.
