Since they don't have eyelids it's hard to say when they are "sleeping" or not but corns are diurnal meaning they are primarily active during daylight vs. many other snakes being nocturnal. Your snake is new to its home and will spend a while exploring their new environment which is why he is out checking things out (aka, seeing if he can escape.. lol). After a few days, he will likely move closer to the norm of spending much of their time in their hides. In any case, if the snake is new to the home, the best advice is to leave them alone for 3-5 days, which is hard to do, but they may be stressed and interaction will just increase any potential stress.
