20 L tank...but 10 to 20 gal UTH seems small

Firstly, THANK YOU to all the experienced snake hobbyist here who have been so very helpful to all us newbies. I am sure you get tired of answering variations of the same questions. I tried to search for my answer, but I cant quite find the exact one I need.

We adoped a yearling corn last week, but I decided to get another, for me and my other child to share. We are buying an amazing 3 year old ghost zig zag from the for sale pages on this site and she will be here in the morning. I am rushing around to set up a nice viv for her.

Since she is older I got a 20 Long (she is only 24" long at 3yrs). A UTH 10-20 mat seems tiny...only covering 1/4" of the floorspace at best. Should I get the next size ( 30 to 40 gal size)? I have a thermostat regulator on it's way to me...my local stores don't carry a single plug model ( I checked 4 of them!). Anyway, the snake will be here BEFORE the rehostat. Will she be ok at room temp for 48 hours or so??? My house....that is about 74. I DO NOT want to plug in the mat without the rehostat and burn her. Since she won't be eating for several days at least....will she be ok?? Or do I need to jury rig something???

Thank you so much for everyone's time. We are so unbelievably happy to be the parents of little Argus and our future Krystal. Hopefully the flight won't traumatize the poor thing too much. We only want the best for her. She will be very happy in her fairy themed viv I am sure.

Congrats on you new babies. Sounds like you have everything right. I would stick with the 10-20 gal heat mat. Just stick it an inch or so in from the edge of the tank. And she will be fine at room temp until the thermostat comes it. You are right it is better to have her at room temp than to cook her.

24'' at 3 years seems kinda small, although im no expert. But the mat is perfect, they dont need a lot of heated space, personally my corn never goes to the warm side unless he just ate so its not a big deal.

All corn grow at different rates I had one that was a little bigger than that at 3. I remember seeing the ad cause I had to resist but I would trust the person that you are getting her from.

well id trust cmalchow before me he has much more experience in this, the size was just a rough guess from what ive seen on the net, i basically have no real experience which is undoubtly the most important factor with anything really, especially reptile care

You are right most often they are bigger than that at that age. That is when most start breeding. I might have even questioned care before hand if I hadn't seen the ad and hadn't trusted the person she is getting it from. My ghost is 4 this year and is just hitting the 3 foot mark but I got a couple yearlings that are almost 24inches already. So go figure.

Thanks! Actually my doorbell rang at 6pm tonight...My thermostat! I applied the mat and my daughter had a ball decorating the tank. I cut a flower pot in half and got creative with my dremmel to make 2 hides (nice and smooth) and we cut a colorful teapot in half with a little curved door/hole...also all dremmeled smooth for a 3 one. Some greenery, silk flowers (all washed and vinegar/watered then set in the sun) and a waterford crystal look alike waterbowl. All this with a disney fairy background behind the tank. It is actually very cute.

So....When do corns stop growing. How old when they are "DONE"?

They are always growing, at least thats my perception of it, thats why they shed. However I believe after 2-3 years they basically stop growing any noticable amount. This is next part is an assumption and guess, so correct me if im wrong, but ill probably assume that if its true they never stop growing but growth slows down a lot, they might grow 1 inch a year ?? after reaching sexual maturity

Well Crystal arrived safely (Im told we have to spell crystal with a "C" because it is like the gems). Here she is in her new home![/ATTACH]

Look at the big grin on your daughters face. That picture is precious and I love the tank. It looks great.
