20L vs small tank for baby?

I am planning on getting my first corn snake at the next reptile expo. 😀 I have a 20L tank with a sliding top. If I put plenty of hiding places do you think it will be ok? Or should I get a smaller tank to start? I'm weighing convenience and not having to stress the snake out with a move vs stress because of a too-big tank. Also, feed inside or outside the Vic? I'm getting different opinions, do I move, feed, then stress by moving back to tank? Seems stressful to the snake. Any advice welcome!

Your 20long is perfect and as for feeding in or out you will get two options or opinions. I feed outside their viv for one main reason for me is that it teaches them that when you open the viv and put your hand in there that it is not food. I have little shoe Rubbermaid boxes I use for feeding and cleaning their viv. I don't even use tops for them for some reason they like to go into them and stay food is a good motivator. But that is what I do and you might want to feed inside your viv. Up to you. The stress is not an issue I handle my snakes a lot except for the two days after a feeding. Build the trust my your snake and all will be good in their world.

Thanks! I have a bearded dragon but this will be my first snake. I've been stalking this forum to get information so that it will be happy and healthy. You guys seem really knowledgeable and passionate, it's fun reading everything.

I'd use the 20L and you will be set for a long time. One good thing about the 20L is that an under tank heater on one end will allow plenty of room for the Corn to move to a comfortable spot in the tank. You can feed outside the VIV as Scrappyeddie mentioned, and some say it's better to feed hatchlings in a smaller container. If you decide to feed inside the VIV you can use tongs to present the mouse so your fingers aren't mistaken for food.

I use a 20 long for my baby I got back in august with no problems at all. I do take him out of the tank to feed and place him in a tiny tubberware to eat so he gets the idea still. So far no bites which is great!
