You know.. a lot of the time I get kinda down working in videogames and art, and realized how crappy the imagery of women is :/ BUT there is some light! this article made me smile and gave be a bit more pep when it came to the subject. Its a good fight! a fight worth fighting :)

sexed up starfire comic reviewed by 7 year old

for a quick brief over the whole thing, starfire is a peppy young hero introduced as a character for kids in a a cartoon. later though they made an older version of her, that is pretty much a sexed up lady. this 7 year old has a few words for the character and what she thinks of this super hero who "doesnt do anything any more, and isnt a good hero"

made my day!:cool::cool:

That is not Starfire that is Hooker Starfire but sex sells and money talks and the little girl is 100% correct.

Fatman

P.S. I like the new art but not for Starfire.

very true! I do like the new art, its always getting better but yeah shes def right :p i miss good comics though! I need more planet hulk! and things like that. Its always and uphill fight about this stuff. Working in the videogames industry i hear it all the time, "women dont play videogames" and its one of those things that just isnt true! I can only hope that i can get the content and the art that i enjoy from marvel/dc sources!

Well, that new Starfire is seriously sexy, but the kid's right. Very smart kid.

They might mean 'hardcore' games, like first person shooters (Halo, ect) or things like God of War. I have a PS3 and I love it. I have a Wii and don't really like it, as well as a DS. However, I would rather play Sonic the Hedgehog than any FPS or God of War or whatever's 'hot'.

A number of friends and I like to say gamers are stupid nowadays with how FPSs rule the market. :rofl:

hah! I usually cant stand fps' but even in the hardcore line! There are maybe not as many as other genres (as a total women make up 48% of the gamers! :) but even still! id like her to be sexy, and complex :p if i wanna be a super hero id want to be hot too...but also kick some butt X3

Comics have always been about exaggerated reality, but it's gotten pretty ridiculous in terms of character design. The men are hyper masculine alpha males, the women are hyper feminine lingerie models.

It wasn't always this way. I know that about 20 years ago when I collected comic books, the characters will exaggerated, but not to the extreme degree it is now.

I also agree with the OP concerning video game art. I've always loved the artwork from Blizzard Entertainment but I absolutely hated the character designs in Starcraft 2. They basically went the way of Epic and made all the characters look the same. Epic has done Gears of War and Unreal Tournament as their big titles and I couldn't really see any significant different between the character design in both. Absolutely massive, aggressive males all based on the same generic archetype.

Blizzard has also been pretty egregious with design in World of Warcraft. Very non-practical armor to say the least. Plate armor bikini? Really, Blizzard? Really?

One of my favorite character designs is Faith from Mirror's Edge because she looks like a real person. I want more of that, not less. :/
