Tonight I was watering my snakes and I opened the bin to one of my new adults that we just picked up and brought home thursday, the Ultramel charcoal female. She was at the front of her bin and when I put my hand in the bin to grab the water dish she nosed my hand. I changed out the water in the dish and when I put the dish back in to the bin she nuzzled and tongue flickered my fingers with her nose again. She rested her chin against my fingertip so i gently rubbed her chin. Oh so delicately she opened her mouth and very gently and nonchalantly closed her mouth around my fingertip and then paused. When I moved my finger a smidge she let go, adjusted and did it again. Lol my first bite.....twice. She then let go, flickered her tongue and backed off. She has now been named "Nibbles"! I can still sort of feel the teeth pricks in my fingernail.

Then I went to water the last snake an adult anery hurricane motley and take her out to handle, and discovered she had escaped from her glass viv. However before full blown panic set in, we found her about 3 feet away from the viv tightly wrapped around a piece of wood that was behind our bedroom door. We discovered that the viv she came with does not latch properly and we had to move her to the snake rack. So much for the quarantine period....but the risk of lack of quarantine was not as bad losing her again.:eek:

Can you not fix the viv so it will latch or put her into a bin with clips? I'd not risk my entire collection before all other options were depleted.

I have to add one thing. I just about fell to the floor laughing. It was the most slow, delicate, gentle thing you have ever seen.

If I have ever seen a snake talk that was it. And she said very politely. "Feed me please. I am hungry."

Also if anyone wants to comment on this: I know you are not supposed to handle snakes when you first get them. But our new addition Gina the bloodred will come from out of her hide even when you open her bin and crawl right into your hands. It has happened everytime we have watered her since she has been home. The first time I was able to convince her to go back home. Not tonight though. As fast as you put her in she would climb back up whatever digit/limb was close. She was some determined. So kept her out for like five minutes so we could get the water changed while she wove knots in my fingers and managed to get her back in after.

She is so amazingly friendly. Em if you read this, I am not sure what you did to her, but I think she figures she is human and belongs with you as an accessory.

It is one of those sliding lids. I can't think of a way with what I have on hand to keep it shut. And it isn't like we can even go down to the local corner store and find something either. We live way out in the sticks.....nearest open corner store is like a 2 hour drive.

We have her segregrated at the furthest point away from everyone else. But it is the best we can do till morning.

We got our corn Sunday and while it's still a little shy, things are getting better. I fed it a F/T pinkie today and the snake took it right out of my hand. It was awesome.

We don't know if it's a male or female, and no name yet, so it's still 'It'. lol
