Its been a while since I've posted, and I have a few questions, or more of, a few things I've been wondering about.

Sir Blinky just turned 1 year old about a month ago, and I _think_ he weighs 48g...... I have a scale that seems accurate, like I put my weight on it (50g) and it says 50g... I looked up how much an iphone 4s weighs, which is what I'm being forced to use temporarily, and it weighs 140g, I put mine on the scale, and it says 141, so I'm pretty sure its an accurate scale, its just really old, so I had my doubts. ANYWAYS... Sir Blinky is doing great, I've had him since September, and hes never refused a meal so far, and his sheds have been 4-6 weeks apart and always been 100% complete :)

Does that sound right? 48 grams and 23 inches long at 1 year 1 month old? I know each snake is a bit different, but is that in the zone of normal?

I've neglected to get the next size feeder due to insufficient funds, but thats changing in a week, finally, so I can get the next size up. I've been feeding 2 large pinkies every 4 days for about the last 4 feedings, but now I'm certain he's ready to go up in size (this is the reason I'm afraid hes small for his age). What should I get? It seems like hes right in between Reg. Fuzzies and 'Hoppers' according to the old medusa feeding chart. I feel awful that I haven't been able to get the next size and have almost completely skipped the Fuzzie feedings, but I've had no other choice :awcrap:

The last thing I'm wondering is if its ok that one time he didn't use his warm hide, but digested his meal and was (and still is) fine? A bout two months ago he ate then went into his cool side hide and didn't come out for about 12 hours, so I took him out and put him in his warm one, but that night he was back in the cool side one. He digested fine, I didn't find any regurg, and he had a regular poo a few days later, like always. Cage temps were normal, is this ok?

I think that's it for now, I'll be posting some pics in his thread over in the Pic section, from around his 1 year birthday, feel free to ask ANY and ALL questions you may have, and thanks for the answers in advance!

I can't answer for the weight part of your post, but as for the hides, as long as temps are good and he doesn't have a regurge let them go where they want. They don't have to go into their warm hides. They will go where they are most comfortable, be it a warm hide, a cool hide or the plastic plant in the corner.

They tend to hit quite a growth spurt once they go up to fuzzies. Pinkies don't seem to have a lot of nutrition. I would say he's a little small for a yearling but he will catch up in no time.

He knows what temps he needs to be so don't move him to the warm side after he eats. He knows what to do. Just make sure your temps are correct and it will all be fine :)

Now we could use some pictures :)

We almost skipped fuzzy feedings with our snake too and he's done fine. I had some fairly big pinkies to use up and after he ate a fuzzy, and it still looked a bit small, I just carefully sorted a bag of hoppers to feed the smallest first. Looking back he was also 48g when we started them. He's 170g and eating adult mice now just 8 months later!

Wow! That's quiet the growth spurt! Can't wait till my feller is that big, here are just a few pics that I have on my phone:

He's very pretty! If it makes you feel any better, our snake was a month or so older than yours at 48g. It's been amazing to watch how fast he's grown lately!

This isn't a great pic, but you can see how big he is. That's a 20 gal viv.

A little more than 8 months ago. He's eaten once a week without fail other than for a couple of sheds and still gets rather small sub 20g mice so we're not pushing it, but he just suddenly decided to GROW!

My yearlings are around 80 grams. I agree with the others that once you (slowly) introduce bigger prey he will put on weight suddenly. I thought we were on fuzzies a long time but because I breed mice, I can have been graduating their size up the whole time and we're probably at med-large hoppers now.

Sometimes my snakes digest in their cold hides. It drives me nuts but it doesn't seem to do them any harm.
