So I get two li'l pinkies ready to feed to Jubal. They are the perfect temp, he's hungry, all is good. I carefully put him in his deli feeding cup and insert the first pinky. (an aside...I find it hilarious and adorable the way Jubal refuses to look at the pinky for a moment, then will turn his head and do a double take like it is such a shock that a baby mouse appeared out of nowhere even though he watches me wiggle it in front of him and set it down. He then pushes it hard with his nose and starts cranking that jaw open.)
Anyway, as he has his mouth on the pinky, my computer, which is nearby, begins to make a horrible screeching noise and emits a burning smell. Not only was I startled and concerned, Jubal let go of the mouse and became frantic. I turned off the computer, made sure all was safe (no clue what happened, still investigating), removed the mouse and let Jubal calm down. I tried putting the pinky back in with him after a bit and he had no interest. He tried to get as far from it as possible. Now I become worried that he will associate the 'scare' with the act of feeding or with pinkies themselves. I remove the pinky and put it on a paper towel on the table and Jubal curls up in my hand with his tail tight around my finger.
This is getting wordy.
I relax my hand and kinda rest it on the table for a moment, and Jubal stretched out and grabbed that pinky, pulled back towards my hand and chowed down. It was fascinating to watch him eat right in my hand. But then I am completely fascinated by him and his actions anyway. And I'm thrilled that he DID eat. May have to find a different feeding container, though.
