all his time in the air

my brand new hatchling golddust motley is spending all his time in a vine in the middle of his cage im up til like 3 or 4 am every night and he doesnt move but up and down in the vine everyonce in awhile. is this normal? should i be worried? do you think this might be because he is only bout a week old or what? or am i just worrying about nothing

Hatchlings seem to go thru an arboreal phase. I wouldn't worry as there are LOTS of pictures of them hanging out in their vines. He's probably sneaking down to warm up when you are asleep! If he takes his first meal with you properly and poops properly, and sheds pretty often (it seems like my 2010s shed all the darn time!) he's fine.

If using a heat mat, check that the temp on the floor is OK (max about 85-88 degrees on the warm side). If that's OK, then it looks like you just have a climber as opposed to a burrower!

You might want to lower the heat mat temperature and see if the snake comes off the vine. He may have found the only place where the temp is comfortable for him.

I think it's probably normal, but lowering the heat would be a good idea. I keep mine between 82-85 on warm and 71-74 on cold. If my guy's not in his warm hide, he's constantly on his branch as high up as he can get on the cold side. I have the same hides on either side, and have tried switching them to see if maybe he preferred one over the other, but nothing worked. He refuses to use a hide on his cold side, and is always up on that darn branch! I think every snake just has his or her own personality, and they know what they like! :)

hiya im new to corn snakes iv had a carolina corn snake for 3 weeks nw and he has just shed his first skin. but i hav noticed that al the time he is burrowin underneath the substrat and getting under the paper towels on the bottom he neva neva goe in his hide on the cool side or the warm and bearly ever comes out from under the substate. is this normal and is there anything i can do to stop him/her gettin underneath the paper towels on the ootom of the tank?? email bak if any advice thanz.

Every snake is different. I would still follow the same advice as above cause your temps may be to low. It could still be something that he does. Every last one of mine is different. We have one that almost never uses his hide and is always under the substrate. I have one that be call lard butt (she is actually the smallest out of them all) cause she is always redecorating her tank with hanging on the plants and another that is neither up nor down. Happy leaving her plants alone and not burrowing. I could go on and on but you get the point. lol But definitely check your temps but it may just be something that he does

My oldest snake was a burrower. Loved to go under the substrate instead of climb or use his hide. No worries as long as your heat source is regulated so its not too hot and is unable to burn him.

oky thanks nd im currantly useing a heat mat witch is always around 70 to 75 f is this oki? and iv put a sheet ov card on the bottom ov the glass with the aspen on top so coco doesnt get onto the glass nd burn himself. any other suggestion on the heating side is just a heat mat alright ? thankz

If it's 70-75F on the glass it's a little cool. If that's on top of the aspen it's fine. Some snakes are tunnel diggers and just like to get down in the aspen. Others think they are amazon tree boas and go up in their vines. They are all little individuals with their own funny behaviors.

mine goes through phases. For a week or so it'll do nothing but go in its vine or in its hide on the warm side. Then it'll turn around and for a week or so do nothing but burrow or go in the hide on the warm side. lol. And the temp is always the same.
