Ooo nice babies!
Sweet garter! I love the stripe. Make sure that his substrate isn't too moist. They get belly rot easily. I know they are semi-watersnakes, but they need a dry place too.

My garter is in a 20gallon with reptibark and peat moss substrate. His water dish is a paint tray full of water. His substrate never gets wet, but he has tons of room to swim!

Cool!
I have a HUGE water area for my garter also. They love to swim and chase guppies. Mine has gotten fat and lazy on pinkies though. Checkered garters take to pinkies easier then most garters. Many garters wont eat them at all.

Mine never swim , and guppies arent the best food.

my garters(similis, radix, sirtalis flame ; melanistic ,erytristic , sirtalis tetrataenia) feed all! on rat pups or mouse pienks.

I read that some don't really like to swim but mine loves it! Guppies are fine as a feeder fish. Rosy reds are the best. Goldfish are bad, they are just like iceberg lettuce, no substance!

You're lucky with all your garters. I've heard many say that they wish their garters would switch to pinks.
Aren't rosy reds just goldfish really and bad for a garter (thiamanse probs)?
Guppies are an okay food, except for any parasites/diseases they may have. I breed my own (and have too many) to avoid that, but those are only snacks. Earthworms work well for a snack for garters too, but I think the f/t mice are the best for them as their main diet.

Rosie reds are actually a type of minnow and is the suggested fish for garters. My garter will not even touch an earthworm! I also have to feed pinkys and fish at the same time because he will only "fish". But at least he eats.

Cool! Thats pretty smart to feed the fish and pinks at the same time to use the feeding response to get them to eat mice!
About the rosy reds, maybe it depends on where you buy them? Around here, and I know in some other places, rosy reds are minnow like, but are actually goldfish. I am gong to look more into it online, then repost.

Well, I was right and wrong. Rosy reds are not goldfish, they are fat head minnows, but they do contain some thiaminase, and it can build up over time, so rosy reds should be avoided. I knew there was a reason I no longer fed my garters rosy reds. (I used to at first.)
