Alternative to aspen?

Hi everyone, i know pretty much everyone on these forums loves aspen. The thing is, when m snake was on aspen, it was like he couldn't breath near them, he always went around with his head off the floor, and slept with his head up on his branch. Also when he went in his hide, he would keep his head out and rest it on top of the hide. Needless to say, when i noticed these symptoms, i immediately switched his substrate, he is now on medium sized wood chips. Now, he is just fine, acting normal and going around perfecly, the stuff is much easier to clean, there arent those large amounts of tiny shreds ( every time i took him out, the would cover my floor, and i had to get the hoover and hoover it up)
I think he likes it, every time i come in the room now, he comes out and watches me (so cute!)

any one have any experience with this stuff
they look like this:

It is called savanah and i have seen it in all the reptile stockists around my house ( i hope that means its pretty common, and i'll be able to get more)

There are two other benefits I have found with using these chips,

1) with front opening viv's, it doesnt get in the slide guides of the doors, jamming it and stopping it close properly

2) It stays pretty much flat, so he doesnt get big piles due to burrowing, and spill it all in his waterbowl, meaning i have to clean it multiple times a day.

Some might argue that with aspen their snakes'tunnelys stay up, so it is like a large burrow, and for your snakes it is probably true, but silas, always went a new way even when there was a massive tunnel right next to, going exactly were he wants to go lol.

Bascically, it is a much cleaner alternative than aspen, but in some places more expensive. The prices range from 1.99 to 4.50 around where i live for a large bag

it is beech chips, if i am not mistaken it is the same kind of thing that princess uses/used to use. I have only been using it a few days, but in that short amount of time, it seems to have made a massive influence on my snake, and makes life a eck of a lot easier for me.
