Another Day in the Park

I was at the park doing my daily field herping a few days ago. A woman on a horse saw that I had a snake hook and asked if I had seen anything yet. When I said not yet she replied,"Well there's a Rattlesnake in the street over there." I headed over to the culdisac next to the park and there was an adult Southern Pacific Rattler. I went over to move it into the park and out of the street. I didn't want it to get hit by a car, killed by a resident of the nieghborhood, or bite someone. I took a couple of pics and noticed something was wrong. He was rattling at me just fine, but he was moving rather slow. He opened his mouth after I got him on the hook and blood came out. Seems that he might have already had a run in with a car :(
I put him in the field, took a couple more pics and let nature take it's course.
I went back yesterday and he wasn't there anymore, so he didn't die where I left him.
The first pic is of him in the street where I found him. The second and third are in the field. The third he had his mouth open and was hissing at me as well as rattling.

But to lighten the mood a bit, here are some pics of some perfectly healthy Alligator Lizards that I saw that day. Both were quite large. I love the color variation on these.
